DETECTIVE AMELIA:
I slammed into my car and whipped out of the garage and down the road. I saw other cop cars wheel pass me and into the direction of the hospital. I turned down an empty road and took a shortcut through the lesser part of Florida's lovely Orlando. Rundown homes and building passed on either side and I saw people walking up and down streets, giving me a wide berth as I tore through the trench of buildings. Then, I made my way back onto the main roads and saw the cop cars in my rearview mirror. I hit on the gas and sped through lights, my own lights screaming as I tore through street after street. Then, when I reached the entrance I jumped from my door and burst through the main doors like a hurricane and ran for the stairs, not even pausing for breath as several doctors came toward me. I flew up the stairs, my breath in my throat, a roar in my ears.
Each step seemed to be loud, each step seemed to be quiet, as I bulleted up the staircase I felt time ticking by. "Hailey." That thought kept me running, kept me going, kept me believing. "I have no family." She had said. "I love Tina GUo." She had confessed. "No one would believe me if I told them. They all baby me, think I'm weak, but I'm not." I smashed through the doors, sending those off their hinges too. THe hall was suddenly silent and empty and I paused, feeling my breath tear my lungs apart, but sensing the silence and knowing that Hailey Spinner was in very deep trouble. I pulled out my gun and walked slowly down the corridor and paused outside of 6C. Then I heard Hailey's scream, a scream of rage, not pain, the Tina Guo music Hailey loved so fiercely, and male laughter. I heard footsteps and spun with my gun aimed at Ming and Sullivan. They paused and put their fingers to their heads and saluted me silently. On silent feet they came closer and I held up my fingers, three, two, one. I kicked the door in and saw everything in less than two seconds. Doctor Ciara was on the cloor, her neck slit from ear to ear. The bed was flipped over, hailey's iPad on the floor, still blasting the cellos and orchestral power Hailey loved. The girl herself was against the wall, her head back, eyes open and burning with rage and hatred. She bared her teeth and tried to move, but the telekinetic grip was too strong. At least, it was until I burst in. I aimed and fired two shots. The boys screamed as the bullets hit home, skimming across their shoulders. Hailey fell and I ran towards her, Ming and Sullivan covering me as I positioned myself in front of her.
"You." John Williams said. "Damn right me." I gasped out. "None of you fucking bastard are touching her." "Who says?" The other Rogue asked. "I say you bloody Bloke." I said, raising my gun. "We can stop those bullets, you only surprised us." John said. "Let's hope I don't do it again, otherwise I won't be so kind." Ming and Sullivan flanked me as I said, "It's over, you aren't getting Hailey, aren't getting her or anyone else." I felt a sudden cold breeze but ignored it as they laughed hard and John asked, "Who gonna stop us? You? Bitch you needed help last time, you couldn't catch us on your own." He looked around, "No other Rogues here to help you, no other cops, you're all alone." "She ain't alone." Sullivan aimed his gun at John, "She's still got two cops." John laughed. Another icy breeze flew through the room. I looked towards the window, but it was closed. Hailey's hands touched my back as she rose behind me. I pressed her against the wall. "You aren't getting my daughter." I said. Silence followed those words, but I didn't fail to hear Hailey's gasp. "What you talkin bout Bitch, we murdered her parents, killed them and watched them bleed, enjoyed it too." "Since she wouldn't do it herself." The other said. "Shut up." Hailey snapped. "Oh still backing out, still running from the truth are you?" John said. "You know what you had to do, what you should've done, but because you were such a coward we did it for you and you deserved your punishment." "Amelia." Hailey begged. "Please, please don't listen to them, please." Another icy breeze pushed through the room.
I began to wonder what the breeze was, what, and where it was coming from. "Amelia." Hailey asked. "Please, please." "She ain't your mommy." John said. "She won't take you in now. Now she know da truth, shit ain't no one taking you in now. Ain't no one gonna give two fucks about you now." Then there was the sound of clapping and I turned to see Sarah standing in the doorway, her blonde hair down, her teeth glinting as she clapped over and over. "What a bright brilliant story." She said. THe boys stiffened, and their faces paled with recognition. "But boys, Amelia will be taking Hailey, and your time has come to an end." She threw out her palms and ice flew through the air. The boys screamed as it wrapped around their necks, wrists, ankles, and chests. They fell to the ground and tried to break their bonds. Sarah leisurely walked in, smiling broadly at me, "Huntor said you might need help." i turned to Hailey who was watching Sarah with eyes filled with shock. 'It's ok, she's friendly." Hailey's attention returned to me and she wrapped her arms around me hard. I pulled her tight adn noticed she was bare, all her clothing ripped to shreds. "Oh fuck." I pulled her away and began to examine her for wounds. "Nothing." Hailey said. "You came in before they could do anything." I tore my jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders. She burrowed into my warmth, her face pressing in between my breasts. "There there, it's over." I crooned. "It's all over now." I turned to Sarah who was holding out clothing, "We thought she might need this." "Thanks." I pulled Hailey away and helped her dress. "Here." I said. "I'm going to lift you and carry you out of here." "I can walk." "I'll rephrase then, I, need, to carry you." She smiled. "Ok, mommy." A tear trickled down my cheek at that.
'Let's get you out of here." I said, turned towards the door. ming and Sullivan stepped in front of us as security came to the door, "What happened?" "A lot, sorry you bastards missed out." Sullivan said harshly. I turned to Sarah, who was still holding the boys in her icy grip. "Sorry." Sarah said sweetly, "But this is now an Indigo matter, you aren't needed." The head of security looked like he wanted to argue but I said, "Enough, you don't wanna pissing contest with her." He looked at me, "You're SVU." I nodded. "You aren't needed, I'd leave if I were you." I said. We walked passed and Hailey said, "I love your british accent, it's so interesting." "What accent?" I asked in perfect American." Hailey frowned but Ming said, "It only comes out when she's pissed, or feeling great emotion." "Strange, but cool." Said Hailey. We walked to the elevator and road it down, the boys remaining unconscious. We stepped out and into massive bedlam, the nurses and doctors alike ran back and forth and when we were spotted, the nurse who took care of Hailey moved in our direction. "OH no, not her." "I got this." I said. I stepped in front of her. "You can't have her." The nurse nearly exclaimed. "She's still our patient, she needs bed rest, she's been through a horrible ordeal." "Wrong right right." I said. "I can take her, and I will take her." "This is gonna be good." sullivan said from behind me. "She is my material witness, she's my victim, and she's my daughter." I touched the spot on my stomach, where I hid something. "What?" The nurse gasped.
"She's my daughter now." I said. "No, I wasn't alerted, I mean, we weren't aware of this." "You are now." I said. "No, there are papers, forms to fill out, CPS they have to step in, a representative of them should be here. You aren't her legal guardian." "I am now. Don't get in my way, I am a Detective of SVU, you don't want me to use the muscle I have." The nurse actually stepped in my way, her hands on her hips, as if I actually had to move her. I stepped forward, "Move, now." This time I actually heard the England in my voice as I spoke those two words. "Move out of our way, right now." "No. You cannot do this, you cannot just take her." "Actually, she can." The nurse whipped around, her neck actually cracking with the motion. Becky and Huntor strolled in. Becky looked smug, Huntor looked calculating and cold as he looked around. Becky held a stack of papers. "As of half an hour ago, Amelia Spinner, is Hailey Spinner's legal parent." Hailey's hands gripped my arm, hard. "Oh, oh my God." Becky stared at the nurse, "I knew I didn't like you for a reason. Amelia Spinner, what do you intend to do?" "If I cannot walk out of here with my daught, then I think I'll have to charge this hospital in civil court." The nurse took several steps back and went very pale. 'CPS." "Has signed off and agreed." "Jenny silvia walked in on her heels, smiling at me and Hailey. "Congratulations Detective Amelia Spinner." The nurse, now looking gray, jerked back and spun around. She looked round, as if all the nurses and doctors would gang up on me. When no one did, she stuck her nose in the air and marched off. We walked towards the door, Hailey still gripping my arm tightly. Once they closed behind us Huntor stopped Sarah, "You two." I hadn't realized it, but the boys were awake and watching Huntor. Jenny stopped and stared at Huntor, letting her professional face fall for a sec to show avid interest. "You both have forfeited your right to life in this world." "Huntor." I said. Becky shot me a warning look. "You have earned your punishment, the Higher Beings will judge you now." Sarah clenched her fists and they were frozen solid.
I watched, horrified, as Sarah threw the boys and they smashed against the pavement, shattering like glass. "Huntor." I said. "They deserved to be locked up for what they did, they deserve—"We don't have the same rules as you do." He looked at me, and I saw, saw for the first time, saw the Indigo in him, the eternal power within him. "They have powers that could break out of your prisons, they are under the law of the Higher Beings now. Now they'll get true retribution for what they did." He looked at Hailey, "For what they tried to make you do." Tears fell down her face but she said, "Thank you, I want, I need, them to pay for what they did." He smiled and said, "We'd better get out of here, let's meet at the safe-house, then we'll tell you what happened on our end." I nodded. I turned to Ming and Sullivan, "Thank you, for everything." They both saluted me and walked towards Sullivan's ride. I took Hailey's hand and walked towards my Acura TL. She sat in the passenger seat and I turned the car on. We pulled from the curb and road into Orlando traffic. I opened my mouth, trying to think of what to say when she spoke, "You kept your promise." "Of course I did." I said. Hailey sniffled and I looked to see tears falling. "You kept your promise, you came back, you found me, you stopped them." "Course I did sweet pea. I'll always come back, always save you." 'Promise." 'I promise sweet pea. I'm a Detective, I'm a cop, I'll always come back." "My mother." She whispered the words, like they were a kind of taste she hadn't had in years and wanted to saver. I reached over and squeezed her leg. She gripped my fingers. I felt something in my heart tighten, tighten, and release in pleasure. "You defended me, stopped them, stopped the nurse." "I'll always stand between you and danger. You're my daughter now, mine, and I'll protect you no matter what." I said. "When it comes to you Hailey, I'll protect you relentlessly, I'll go to the ends fo the Earth and back to find you." "Promise?" "I promise."
