Dean held open the door to her hospital room to let Alayna go in first. She shrugged off her jacket as she did so, looking around the empty room. Karoline was down in the NICU with Jackson so that Dean would feel comfortable enough to leave him down there and stay up here to keep an eye on Alayna. There were nurses and doctors, but he didn't feel comfortable enough to leave either of them with strangers - even strangers that had medical degrees. That wouldn't help against Supernatural threats. He was going to kick Sam's ass when he saw him again.
"Thanks for picking me up." She turned to him with a small smile - she was still rattled, that much he could tell.
"Anytime." His head tipped to the side, concerned green eyes taking her in. "Are you going to be okay?"
She sighed heavily, "I'll survive. Somehow I always do."
Dean smiled slightly at that, taking a small step closer to her. It was true. She always seemed to survive, no matter how devastating or horrible something became, she always managed to come out the other end, stronger. It was one of the things he admired most about her.
"Dean," Alayna started carefully. "You're not really gonna stop looking for Sam's soul are you?"
"Of course, not," he looked at her like she was crazy for thinking anything otherwise. If anything, today proved how desperately they needed to get it back - only now they'd have to be more secretive about it. Who knew how far Sam would go to keep them from getting his soul back.
"I couldn't even recognize him anymore, Dean," She admitted in a soft voice, her brown eyes turning glossy. "When I looked at him... it was like I was looking at a stranger. We have to get his soul back, and soon. Whatever it takes..." She broke off at the end, letting her eyes drop to the ground. Whatever it takes.
"We will, I promise." Alayna looked back up into his eyes, seeing the truth in them. They would save Sam, they'd get him back. Dean sighed, hooking his finger under her chin to get her to look at him, "tell me, are you going to be okay?"
Alayna's eyes darted between his eyes, seeing that sparkle in them - one that could only mean trouble. "You can't kiss me again," she said instead, frowning slightly.
Dean gave her a tight lipped smile in return, but he didn't let go of her, "I know."
"I can't," she pulled his hand away from her face, the warmth leaving her instantly. "It's not right."
"It will be," he told her, and her mind flashed back to five months ago, when she first found out she was pregnant. "Our time will come, Alayna, and I'll wait for that as long as I need to." Alayna stared up at him like she'd never seen him before and he only smiled, tucking her hair out of her face. "You should get some rest, you had a long day." Alayna could only nod, not trusting her voice at the moment. "Goodnight."
She swallowed hard, "goodnight, Dean." And with that she crawled into bed. He was right, she did have a long day, and an even longer one ahead of her. She knew what she had to do. She watched him walk away and into the bathroom off to the side, and she waited until the door was fully closed before pulling out her phone.
It rang three times before she picked up, "Hm, what a a lovely surprise. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Blair's voice came through the phone, light and thick.
"You said you could get Sam's soul back," she whispered, peering over at the bathroom door nervously. "Does that mean you can get to Lucifer's cage."
"Yes... why?" Her tone turned suspicious.
"Can you get me there?"
Alayna tapped her fingers against the warm coffee mug, watching Jason set his own on the table across from her and falling back into the seat. She had just told him, she was pregnant and he hadn't said a word yet. She was waiting for the bomb to drop. Pulling her bottom lip between her teeth, she watched him carefully, "You can say it, you know?"
