"You sent Demons after them?" Castiel stormed into the room in a fury, anger sparking in his eyes and grace crackling through the air.
Crowley didn't look the least bit phased by his tone, "you killed my hunters. Why can't I kill yours?"
Castiel towered over him easily, his eyes narrowed and his jaw set, "They're my friends."
"You can't have friends, not anymore. I mean, my God. You're losing it!"
Castiel looked away from him, "I'm fine."
"Yeah. You're the very picture of mental health." His voice was dripping with sarcasm. "Come on. You don't think I know what this is all about?"
"Enlighten me."
"The big lie," both boys turned to look at Aurora as she walked over to them, thumbs hooked in her jean pockets as she shrugged. "They still buy it. The good, Castiel. The righteous, Castiel. The Castiel who wanted to protect Karoline rather than use her as the weapon she truly is," Castiel narrowed his eyes, but Aurora paid the warning little mind. "As long as she still believe's it, you get to believe it. Well, guess what, charming, a whore is a whore is a-"
Castiel let the Angel blade slip into his hand and he lurched forward, but hesitated with the tip of the blade against her exposed collar bone. She broke off, but raised her chin in defiance. "I will only say this once," he was speaking to both of them now, but he kept his narrowed eyes on the blonde Angel. "If either of you touch any of them again, I will tear it all down. Our arrangement - everything. I will bury you." And with that he disappeared in a flutter of wings.
"I asked myself, 'what was I doing with these vermin'?"
Aurora relaxed now that the initial threat was gone, her breathing a little erratic as she looked around the room before her eyes landed on Crowley.
"This is not how synergy works!" The Demon shouted although the Angel was long gone.
"As if I didn't already know the answer," Castiel looked across the room at Karoline with big blue eyes that mad her frown. "Raphael was stronger than me. I wouldn't survive a straight fight. So, that's when I went to you."
Karoline's face flushed in realization, "that's when you gave me the Angel grace."
"Yes," the Angel gave a curt nod. "But, then it made you sick - you almost died."
One Year Ago...
"She could die." Aurora put it bluntly and Castiel grew stiff, his eyebrows furrowing. What did she mean, Karoline could die? "Angel Grace isn't meant to mix with a human soul. The more she's exposed to, the more likely it is that her body will reject it. Her body will turn against itself, killing her from the inside out."
Castiel turned away from her, not wanting her to see the actual panic in his eyes. "But, there's a chance that won't happen?" He asked, his back still to her.
Aurora shook her head, "a small one."
Castiel turned back around to look at her, his eyes holding a determination that she hadn't seen him wear before. "Well, then we've got to make sure she won't die."
"And how are you going to do that?" Aurora challenged.
"I don't know yet."
"Castiel. The Angel of Thursday." A rough accent filled his ears and both Angels turned to see Crowley walking across the grassy field to them with a smirk on his lips. "Just not your day is it?"
Castiel narrowed his eyes, "what're you doing here?"
"He's here to help," Aurora spoke up this time and Castiel frowned at her - she brought him here. "We're going to stop Raphael and reclaim Heaven, Castiel, and we can do it without Karoline."
