Ember looked at his phone. The same number had been on his phone for the last hour, him debating on whether to do it or not.
Finally, he made his decision. He pressed off of the dialed number and went to his contacts, searching through until he found his grandma's contact.
He pressed on her contact and then the phone icon, putting his cellphone against his ear and listening as it rung three times.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Grandma," he said, acting like his calm and collected self, he didn't want to worry her too much. "I have a favor to ask of you."
"What is it?" She asked, not sounding annoyed, but not sounding too keen on the idea either.
Ember opened his mouth to ask her, but stopped once his mom came into his room, barely being able to balance herself. Ember pulled the phone away from his ear.
"Mom, you're suppose to be in bed," he said, a slight waver in his voice showing his fear. She looked at him, throwing whatever bottle she had at him.
"You're suppose to be cleaning the house!"
Ember frowned, but instead of fighting, grabbed his phone and walked towards his mom, who glared at him as he passed her.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to clean the house, like you said," he explained, turning around to face her. She frowned, looking over his shoulder at the wall behind him, seeming to be lost in her thoughts.
"I never said that," she finally said, this time with an innocent voice. Besides the times she brought guys home, this was what Ember hated most. When she'd act innocent before starting to yell something about what he did or didn't do.
"I'm going to clean the house, you go to bed," Ember tried to reason, but she just frowned and looked towards Ember again.
"Don't tell me what to do, boy," even though she said the words, she turned to her room and began walking towards it.
Ember turned the opposite way, making his way to the kitchen, the furthest room from her bedroom, and put the phone back to his ear.
"Grandma?" He asked after a moment of silence.
"What?" Her voice came through again, this time with something laced through it. Ember frowned, hoping beyond everything that she hadn't heard his mom. Today wasn't even bad, he was just embarrassed that he hadn't gotten her help sooner.
"Can I come over to ask the favor?" Ember suddenly asked, not wanting to risk his mom hearing anything.
