Luna watched as her parents paced back and forth in the waiting room of the hospital. Luna didn't have any reason to be here, so they just decided on waiting until her doctor noticed them.
However, Luna couldn't watch them anymore. She couldn't let them get her worked up because she'd end up spending a night or two in the hospital and she definitely didn't want that.
So she went to her room, where she always stayed if she was here. She locked the door and crawled onto the bed.
She knew that the doctors could easily unlock it, but she just hoped that they wouldn't, she didn't want to face anybody.
What she wanted was to be with Ember, safe and sound and healthy. He never made her feel like she was an outcast and she hated the feeling.
That's why she couldn't tell him. She didn't want him to change his attitude towards her just because she's a cancer patient. It was dumb to do so in her opinion.
None of us want pity, she told herself, hoping she was correct when she said none.
"Luna?" Luna looked at the closed, and locked, door, her father's voice coming through it. She didn't answer, just acted like she was asleep as she heard the door's lock being twisted and clicking.
"Lu?" Her mother's voice said before she heard all footsteps stop. "Oh, she's asleep."
"We need to talk to her when she wakes up," she heard her doctor say before she heard footsteps walking away.
Luna clenched her fists under her pillow, her nails digging into the skin of her palms as she tried to remain calm. She didn't want to talk about it.
She wanted to continue on, not knowing what she had been told.
She hated that she got told in the middle of school and almost had a panic attack. It wasn't her, but she couldn't help it when she skipped fourth, fifth, and sixth period.
Or when she interrupted Ember's test because she wanted to talk about it, then chickened out from telling him.
But she knew that she had to tell him. He'd certainly question why she wasn't answering once the time was up and she couldn't get in contact with him.
And she wanted to prepare him.
