(Chapter Seven)
Elara sat on the fence, watching her horse run around the pasture. Ariel had told her that the doctor and trainer were going to have a look at her horse before she could get close to her again.
The horse whinnied, starting to walk to Elara, but the lead that the trainer held jerked back when she got so far, causing the horse to freak. Elara wanted to get in to help, but Ariel had specifically said to not get in, or else the horse would be given to another rider.
Although she didn't believe her, she didn't want to risk it.
“Elara!” The girl looked to her right to see Ariel walking towards her in her riding gear, her left hand folded over, containing something. “Here, let's see if we can settle her down.”
“You told me not to go in,” Elara said, keeping her hands on the fence when Ariel tried to pass on whatever was in hers.
“I never said that you had to get in to do this,” Ariel protested, before holding her hand up, “now give me your hand.”
Elara did as she said, placing her hand on top of hers. Ariel showed her how to hold the sugar cubes that she passed her before calling the trainer over, who led the horse over by the lead, stopping just in front of Elara.
Elara did what Ariel showed her to and fed the horse a sugar cube. Ariel grabbed the lead from the trainer, holding it just under the bridle to hold her still.
“I'll come find you when she's done, Matt,” Ariel said, and he nodded, walking off afterwards.
“I've been thinking, and I think I know what you should name your horse,” Ariel said, causing Elara’s head to snap to her to show that she was interested. “I like Wonder.”
“Wonder?” Elara asked. “What's that mean?”
“Basically, you in a word,” Ariel said with a laugh. Elara reached out, petting the horse.
“Is that a good thing?” She asked, glancing at Ariel. Ariel nodded, climbing up on the fence, sitting beside Elara.
“It's a wonderful thing,” Ariel said, smiling at Elara, who looked back at Wonder, putting her hand on her mane. “We have to call your dad soon, we can't just let you run around with a horse without his knowledge.”
Elara suddenly frowned, taking both hands off of the horse and putting them back on the fence. “He won't let me keep her, he'll say that we can't afford it. Whatever that means.”
“He can't tell you to give back a gift,” Ariel said, before stopping herself. “Well, technically, he can, but I won't allow you to give her back.”
Elara looked back at the horse, smiling. “Now, sooner or later she'll have to get a bath, which would you rather it be?” Ariel asked, smiling down at Elara.
“Sooner, Daddy doesn't need to see a dirty horse,” Elara said before getting off of the fence and running towards the gate. Ariel laughed, jumping off the fence and into the pen, holding the lead in hand before guiding the horse.
“We should clean Caspar too,” Ariel said, looking towards the stables. She had put Caspar back in his stable after Elara had gotten her surprise.
“Okay!” Elara ran to get the supplies.
Ember watched Emerald as she shopped. He'd gotten bored hours before, but Emerald still said that a lot of items were needed.
They walked to another store after she checked out, and Ember almost cried in happiness when he heard his phone ringing. He pulled it out, pressing the green button before pressing it to his ear.
