2 Years Later
(Chapter One)

Ember stared at the screen of the computer, logging off before he pushed the office chair away, standing and pushing it back in. He had to get home soon, before Kyla made him pay her for any overtime.

He walked past everybody else and exited the building, walking to his car and entering it.

His mother had bought it for him as an apology of what she put him through. Once she got out of rehab, she got to meet Luna properly, and Luna had talked about her for days.

Ember closed his eyes for just a second, reminiscing the memories before opening them and coming to a stop at a red traffic light.

His fingers drummed against the steering wheel as he waited for it to turn green.

A couple of seconds passed and he was driving again. He drove until he came to the apartments, pulling into the lot and parking before he killed his car and got out.

Luna and he had bought an apartment after both graduated, which had only been a month after prom.

He unlocked the door to the apartment, pushing it open once it clicked. Kyla was immediately in his face.

"She's asleep, I have to go," she said, walking past him real quick. Ember frowned, before hearing her call out again. "Pay me tomorrow!"

He shut the door, looking around at the living room and kitchen that connected. The whole floor was covered with toys.

A small smile crossed Ember's face before he began cleaning the mess, remembering that Luna's parents were coming over within an hour or two.

Her mother was convinced that Ember couldn't do anything alone until he was over Luna's death, and he didn't tell her otherwise, because it seemed to help her come to peace with it herself.

Especially since she got to spend time with Luna's baby.

Ember reached down, picking up a small lamb plush. He walked past the rest of the mess and to the hallway that all the rooms were in.

Ember walked to the last door and opened it as slow as he could, peeking in after a moment.

After making sure that she really was asleep, Ember stepped inside, walking to the crib she rested in, and he placed the lamb inside, against her small hands.

And just like that, she latched onto it in her sleep.

Ember smiled before leaving the room. He left the door cracked and went back to the living room, finishing the clean up within ten minutes before he went to the kitchen, getting the small bit of toys put up from there too.

Then, Ember walked to the first room down the hallway, opening it to find his bedroom, and Dragon still in his pen in the corner, asleep.

He grabbed the leash off of the wall and looked around for the dog's harness.

Dragon woke up by the time he found the harness, and was watching before he jumped over the fencing. He never stayed in if Ember was home.

He wagged his tail, barking once but Ember shushed him.

Ember opened the bedroom door and told him to go. He had to wait until Luna's parents got here to walk the dog, since his daughter was asleep and he didn't want to wake her for the dog to use the bathroom.

So, he instead walked to the kitchen, pulling out the dog's bowls and feeding him. Ember looked on his phone as he waited for Dragon to finish, but was interrupted by a knock on the door.
