Ember stared at the notes in his binder. School had been the last thing on his mind and now he had less than ten minutes to study for his test.
I wish it was math, he thought to himself, knowing that he knew how to do it. His knowledge of science, wasn't anywhere close to that of math.
After a moment, Ember looked up, seeing his phone going off and vibrating on his desk. Luna's name showed across it, and he noticed everyone's eyes on him.
"Something important, Mr. Olive?" His teacher asked, and Ember looked down at his phone that had finally stopped moving. His face was red as he reached up and put it on silent before looking back at the teacher with a smile.
"No."
"Good, because it's test time and we can't have your phone going off every five minutes," Ember's face reddened even more. The teacher walked over to him, handing him his paper as he put up his notes, and his phone started going off again, except this time it was just showing Luna's name, no vibrations or anything.
"You may answer it after the test," the teacher said, grabbing the phone from his desk. "Since it seems so important."
Everyone snickered at Ember as he put his head down on his desk, letting barely any light show as he filled out his test like that.
If I fail, I can blame Luna, at least, he thought to himself, even though he knew he wouldn't. He'd never purposely blame her for something that he should've paid attention to.
"Here," he mumbled, turning in his test first. The teacher grabbed it before returning his phone, and telling him to go outside, which Ember happily obliged to.
"Ember!" Luna's voice came through immediately, and all rage left his body. He couldn't be mad at his friend, she didn't know he had a test.
He didn't even know he had a test.
"What took you so long to answer?" She asked, trying to have a snarky tone in her voice, but instead failing as it shook, and Ember immediately became alarmed.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his voice laced with worry as he thought of what could've happened.
"... I can't tell you," she suddenly said after a minute of silence.
"What?" He asked, dumbfounded. He wanted to question her, but left it at that.
"... I can't tell you," she repeated, before breathing in, and continuing, "but it's bad and I don't know what to do."
