Chapter 15:

The Statue

Selene was flabbergasted by what happened the previous night as she sat in her room at the palace, her wounds leaving her bedridden. The fact that she was nearly beaten to death by her father wasn’t what left in a brainless stupor; that was something she considered normal. It was Helios’s declaration that had the tiny mortal more frazzled then she has ever been before in her life. But it seemed she was the only one that felt that way for Lilith, Francesca, and Alice, who were all sitting around her on her bed, had different emotions that were anything but frazzled or confused.

“I knew it!” Lilith exclaimed from where she sat on Selene’s bed. “I knew from day one he was gonna fall for you and look what happened! He practically proposed!”

“Félicitations!” Francesca declared as she carefully wrapped her arms around Selene’s injured form. “I’m so happy for you Selene! This is great news!”

Alice sighed from where she sat to Selene’s left, her fingers scratching her blond head. “As much as the guy creeps me out and was a grade A butt-wipe to me when I was kidnapped, I gotta admit he does love you. So I guess I can live with the fact that the two of you are together.”

“W-wait!” Selene declared, a bright blush on her cheeks as she gently pushed Francesca away. “I haven’t agreed to anything yet!”

Francesca and Lilith looked at the girl with disbelieving expressions. “What do you mean you haven’t agreed to anything?!” the two asked in almost perfect synch minus the fact that Francesca once again was speaking in her native French.

“The guy’s saved your life twice, it’s obvious he’s nuts about you, and he’s a king so what’s going through your head now?!” Lilith demanded.

“I could care less about the fact that he’s a king Lil,” Selene stated seriously. “What I meant to say was I don’t even know how I feel about him. So until I figure that out there will be no talking about weddings and other stuff.”

“So you’re saying you might not love him?” Alice asked her brows knitted together.

“I…I know I care about him but love…,” She couldn’t think of words to convey what was going on in her head. Her eyes went wide slightly at the sudden epiphany that had dawned upon her.“I’ve never been in love.”

All three of the ladies looked at the girl with wide eyes. “Huh?”

“I have never been in love with anyone before in my entire life,” Selene admitted. “I mean I loved my mother and I love you guys but that’s more along the lines of the love one has for their family. I don’t think I’ve ever had someone genuinely love me either…” she trailed off once again, her brows knitted together as she stared down at her bedding. “huh…that’s kind of sad; never being loved by someone.”

Selene’s friends looked upon the broken girl with sympathy and pity for a long moment as she sat there, no readable emotion etched upon her face, as she stared at the bedding. Lilith shook away the sad emotions that had consumed her and looked upon the mortal with a loving smile.

“Selene,” she began, the divided girl looked at her. “Do you care for him?”

Selene’s brows knitted together. “Yes,” she answered cautiously.
