Ruby came home from school and changed into a dress- it wouldn't make her happy but at least it would make her mom.
"Happy Birthday kid, you got one less year to live by the way."
"Thanks so much Hitch, you are so encouraging. First I have to wear the stupid dress and now you tell how long I'll live." Hitch just shrugged.
"Yeah thanks a bunch Hitch." Hitch just laughed-it wasn't a fairy tale birthday for her.
"Ruby, honey!" called Sabina, "look, all the guests have come!"
"Great!" muttered Ruby, as she walked down the stairs.

Rub finally got out, exasperated, of the room. There seemed to be the whole world in there!
She sat down leaning against the wall and just then she heard a noise. A noise which sent cold fear shooting up her spine- the determined clacking of expensive Italian shoes.
Who could it be?
Ruby tried to think of anyone else who wore those shoes but it was to late, it was the Count.
"Enjoying our birthday, are we Miss Redfort?" He smiled as Ruby got up.
"Yeah well I don't enjoy all the attention in there, if you know what I mean." she tried to keep the tremor out her voice.
"Ah, yes I do, the unwanted attention you get for another year of your life. That is if you live for another year." he said, his cold, black shark eyes fixed on her.
She shuddered, she didn't like how he used the word if .
"Ah well, I just came along to wish you a happy birthday."
"Why do you want to kill me!" Ruby blurted unintentionally.
"Me..." he pointed to himself acting hurt. "Oh, no Miss Redfort I don't want to kill you, you are far to ... precious . But I know someone who does want to kill you- you could say another Casey Morgan. But this person is different. Very different..." with that he he turned and in a blink of an eye, disappeared.
Ruby stood rooted to the spot. Her mind shooting ping pong balls all around her head. Someone else wanted her dead- another Casey Morgan.
"Kid, what are you doing out here?" asked Hitch looking out the door,, "everyone's waiting for you."
"Umm... I just came out for some fresh air..." she said.. her voice distant.
Hitch knew something was wrong but stayed quite and said: "well kid, you might want to come inside coz we've been waiting for half an hour."
"Okkkkk......" said Ruby but Hitch just raised an eyebrow.
