Flashback 3

As I was gaining consciousness, I heard voices. I could easily feel the tension in Jaden’s voice. I tried opening my eyes slowly, and a sharp pain shot up inside my head. ‘Aahh…!!’ I winced in pain everyone’s attention turned towards me. I was surrounded by my  four friends and Jaden.

Jace was holding my hand she seemed really worried. Jaden was standing in front of me; I looked down at his clothes his white shirt was soaked in blood, in my blood. He looked pale and concerned.

I tried to sit up, Dale and Jace helped me up, Dale’s strong palm held my back, while he sat beside me.

‘Miss Alexa’, the doctor came, ‘you will be fine, it may take a couple of days to heal, I must say you hit your head pretty hard.’ I tried to smile weakly at the doctor, and again I winced in pain. As I touched my head, I felt a thick bandage draped over my forehead covering a small portion of my head as well.

‘Here are some medicine and pain killer, you will be discharged in a couple of hours take care’, and the doctor left.

I looked at the clock, it was 3:00 pm, and gosh I had been unconscious for quite some time.

Jace spoke in her same concerned tone ‘Alexa I called your mom, but she had already left for work, there was some emergency, in her local country-council offices, so she had to fly there.’

‘Wow great’, was all I could manage to say at the moment. Mom had to visit the neighboring towns because of her work; I was used to being alone at home for days altogether. But this time I really needed mom, it was only mom and me, my dad passed away, while I was 4, I hardly have any memories of him.

‘Alexa don’t you worry we will be with you, all of us will stay with you at your place, till you are back to normal’, Dale spoke.

Something came up in my mind and I instantly remembered, and I spoke, for the first time in all this while. ‘No Dale, you boys have to concentrate on your coming football match, I know how much efforts you people have put in, and you have your practices going on all the time’.

‘But nothing is more important than your health at the moment’ Aaron said.

‘If its fine with you Alexa I will stay with you, till you are well, moreover I live just across your street, it’s all fine with me’  Jaden spoke for the first time, as those words left his mouth, my heart did thousands of flips. And it started hammering inside my chest. The way he spoke, the way those words were coming out from his mouth, the way he spoke my name, I don’t know why but it felt so good and so correct at that moment.

All my friends started exchanging devilish smiles amongst themselves; I know exactly what they were thinking. Why don’t they understand I am not interested in Jaden, I rolled my eyes irritated.

 ‘So I think this is a nice idea Jaden will stay with the girls at Alexa’s place’, the devil Samuel blurted out without even thinking, and all of them agreed. No one even cared to ask me.

The ever so excited Jace’s face lit up and she said smiling ear to ear, ‘ ok so Jaden will stay with us, and I will take permission for a leave from school for three days for three of us’.

‘Ok fine’, was all I managed to say,  All three boys left giving a peck on my cheek, and promised to call and visit me as many times as they can. I bid them goodbye.

As the guys left, Jace went outside to attend a phone call, hell I was alone with Jaden. As Jace left, Jaden came and sat beside me and said, ‘I am really sorry Alexa, it was my fault, it was my bag that was laying on the floor, and I am also sorry for irritating you since morning’. His apology and his words sounded so genuine, I could feel the sense of regret in his tone. Never in all these years we had such a conversation, my heart  melted seeing him that way. His words sounded so genuine.

‘Its fine Jaden, happens sometimes, no need to apologize even I had played pranks on you hundreds of times, and moreover this was not done purposely. It was my mistake I had to be careful’, I smiled weakly at him.

 Never in all these years I could have even dreamed of having such a conversation with Jaden. I mean me and Jaden had the worst of fights and now we were sitting with each other sharing such a conversation and sharing such a calm moment. He looked all the more handsome, this close.

‘So... friends…?’ He offered me his hand, ‘forget the old times we will have a fresh start’. I gladly took his hand in mine. How wrong I was at that moment, I took his hand for something ‘good’ that was about to start. That was all I was thinking at the moment, ‘good start’. Little did I knew my worst fears were yet to come true?
