Chapter 14

Ariana is fiddling with her fingers looking anxious. I put my hand above hers and give her a reassurance smile. She smile weakly back at me. We're heading to the hospital in Chicago with father and his family of course. Ariana been really nervous and scared to see her but I get to calm her down.

She tend to get panic attacks when she get really anxious and I don't want that. The car came to a stop and I look out the window to see we already parked outside the hospital.

We all got out and make our way to the entrance and the front desk. "Jenna Parkinson." dad said to the lady.

She type something in her computer and give us the details to mum's room. We all walk down the hallway and got in the elevator to the second floor. Mum's room is just two doors down the hallway. Ariana knock on the door softly and open it.

Mum look at all of us, shocked. Ariana ran to her and hug her tight, already crying and soon mum joined in. God, I've been living with bunch of people who cried like a waterfall.

I slowly walk up to her and finally notice how thinner and paler she got. "Mum, you're not on diet right?" I joked. Mum look at me and crack a small smile. She stretch on of her arms out at me while the other still hugging Ariana.

"Give mommy a hug sweetie."

I raised an eyebrow at her and step in her warm embrace. My vision got blurry but I blink and push back the tears. I can't cry. I chanted in my head.

Ariana and mum is talking about I don't know what while I just stare at them. I sigh and got up from my chair. Both of them turn to me and look at me questioningly. I just smile, "I'm gonna be at the food court. Need some coffee." I mutter and walk out the door and down the hallway.

After ordering my drink, I took my sit at the very corner. "What are you thinking Adriana?" I heard someone said. I turn and saw Jack and Georgie sitting across from me with concern in their eyes.

I sigh and look back out the window, "I don't know." I said quietly.

Georgie hold my hand that is on the table and I look at her. "You need to let your guard down. Stop hiding your emotions from us." She told me softly. I shook my head, "I can't." I simply replied before getting up and walk back to mum's room.

"I'm staying at Chicago to take care of mum." Ariana announced. We all sprawled in the living room of Mum's house. Mum just got discharged an hour ago.

"Ya, that'll be great. She will need someone around." dad agreed. Everyone look at me and wait for my response. I sigh and ran my hand through my hair, "Call me everyday okay?" I said to Ariana and she nod at me before hugging me.

I felt her shaking and she let out a quiet sob, I sigh and stroke her hair. "It'll be okay." I said softly. "Remember I will always be there for you." I said as I lightly touch her wrist where the tattoo of our puzzle piece is. She nod her head, "I don't know how I can through without you around to comfort me." she croaked.

I kiss her forehead, "It'll be okay. I call you every night." I told her firmly.

The next day, the Byron's are going back home since there's school tomorrow. I really don't want to go back home. I sigh and changed into my rip shorts with shirt top and my cream knit cardigan. Hey, I don't always dress badass okay. I put on my studded gold and black sandals and walk out the room and downstairs.

"Bye ad. I'll miss you." Ariana whispers as she hugged me tight and rest her head on my shoulder. All this hugging and comforting make me feel lesbian. I need to check my sexuality again.

After all the hugs, we got in the car and dad start to drive back home. "Can I went to Chicago every Friday after school to spend time here for the weekend?" I asked quietly.

Diana and Georgie look at me sympathetically while dad just glance at me from the rearview mirror. "As long as you behave and do your homework." he replied monotone.

"Do you really have to bring up the homework topic every time?"

Dad shrug and just focus on the road. Jack and Georgie suddenly sing quietly and I groaned and hit my head on the side of the window.

"Where were you yesterday?" I heard Ryder asked me as I cleaning the bar. I glance sideways at him and smirk, "Having the best time of my life." I joked.

Ryder went tense and his eyes flashed with something but before I could point out what that is, its gone.

"Hey, I'm just joking." I said softly as I touch his arm.

His muscles relax and he look at me pointedly, "Can you not play around like that?" he scolded.

I laugh, "Why? Are you jealous?" I taunted. He glare and point his finger at me, "Don't challenge me, Adriana."

I snort and rolled my eyes, "Whatever Ry."

After our shift is done, Ryder and j hang out by the beach. It was quiet, both of us just stare blankly at the distance. "Tell me again why I'm here?" Ryder sigh out loud.

I turn to him, "Because you're turning into a softy." I teased and pinch his cheeks. He scowl and slap my hand away, "Meanie." he pouted.

I snort, "Don't pout. It doesn't look cute on you."

He suddenly grin at me. "So you're saying I am cute?" he asked. I look at him wide eyes, "No."

"Yeah right. You just said 'pout doesn't look cute on me'"

I huffed, "Whatever makes you sleep at night bud." I simply reply and rest my head on his shoulder.

"If I didn't know any better, I'll say you're obsessed with me." Ryder joked and I just pinch his hip making him yelp. "God woman, say no to violent." he grumbled. I just punch his arm making him glare at me and rubbed his arm.

"Wake up lazy bum. It's school!" someone shouted before the person push me from my heavenly bed. I groaned and look up, "Was that really necessary?"

Jack look at me sheepishly and shrug before running out my room like a little kid. I rolled my eyes and got up from the floor and to my bathroom. After I've showered and brushed my teeth, I changed into my tank top with rip shorts that has studded at the pocket and my denim jacket. I brush my hair and tie it in a ponytail and put on my red high top converse.

I grab my backpack and phone from the charger and walk out my room. I walk into the kitchen and see Georgie and Jack already sitting there eating cereal. I get my own bowl of cereal and sit beside Georgie. "Morning." Diana greeted us cheerfully just as Daniel and Ivory trailed behind her. Daniel look up and saw me and immediately his eyes light up. He ran and jump up at me and bury his face at the crook of my neck.

All of us laugh but my laugh but cut short when dad walk in. Diana walk up to him and peck his lips making me and the little twins gagged. "Coffee or tea?" Diana asked. Dad shrug, "Coffee is better."

"Hey bud, I need to go school okay. I'll see you later." I told Daniel before lifting him up and place him on the sit. I kiss his cheeks and Ivory cheeks making them giggle and I smile. "Okay Adri, let's hit the road." Jack announced and drag me away. "I can walk by myself just fine." I said with a hint sarcasm and snatch my arm back.
