"How can you call yourself a comic book shop when you don't have the new edition of Flash." Marley mumbled as she looked through the shelves for what she was looking for.
"I know right, it's like a superhero hate crime." A voice agreed from behind, making her turn around.
What she saw was actually a bit breathtaking. The voice was a boy a good couple feet taller than her with his hair flying askew, adorably might she add, wearing a white collard shirt under a navy blue and read blazer along with a matching tie.
"You read the comics too?" She asked surprised, normally she was the weirdo who went to the back where all the paperback copies were instead of just reading them online.
"Of course." The boy cried as if it were obvious, now standing next to Marly and searching through the shelves. "Though I personally like reading Supergirl comics, she's so hot." He exaggerated as he pulled out a comic book wrapped in a plastic cover. "You looking for this one?" He asked, showing her.
She stood there a bit shocked before looking and gasped. "That's the exact one I was looking for!" She said excitedly as she took it out of his hands like it was going to break. "How did you-? I've been looking forever to find this, thank you!!" She squealed as she held it to her chest and jumped up and down.
"Wow, someone likes their comics." He said with a smirk, looking through the shelves once again.
"What can I say, I'm a die heart fan." The girl said as she looked over the back of the book. "Do you need help looking for yours?" She asked as she looked up and saw the boy searching again.
"Please? If you don't mind." He asked as he looked over to the Spider-Man clock the owner had on the walls. "I have to be back at school in an hour for a meeting and it takes me 45 minutes to drive there."
Marley raised her eyebrows but put the Flash comic on the counter and started looking. "Why would you come here if it's that long of a drive?" She questioned as she moved to the next aisle, seeing there was nothing.
"All the comic book stores in Westerville, where I live, have nothing. One of my friends told me about this place so since today was the least busiest day of my week, I decided to come down and check it out."
"I like your commitment for a comic book." She mused as she took one out and showed it to him, "Is this the one?"
He took it and read the title before his expression became excited. "It is! Wow, we're some team, huh?" He laughed, making his way toward the register, Marley following behind.
"It would probably be a better team if we knew each other's names."
"Good point." He chuckled as he turned around and held his hand out. "Sebastian Smythe." He greeted formally.
She shook his hand and almost melted at how soft they felt. "Marley Rose."
"Your name suits you well. The prettiest girl has the prettiest flower in her name." The boy winked as he brought the front of her hand up to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to it, making Marley blush like mad.
"We- should um, we should go check out." She stuttered, obviously flustered as she turned to grab her own comic book and not make eye contact with Sebastian.
They both went up to the cashier and Sebastian, being a gentleman, let her pay first. Marley reached to pull out her wallet when she remembered that she left it in the car, thinking she wasn't going to find anything.
"Can you hold for 2 minutes so I can get my purse?" She asked the man behind the counter.
"No can do." He said blandly. "We're closing up after you two leave so once you're out, you're out until 8:30 tomorrow morning."
"Seriously?" She asked, getting mad. This was not happening. "I have been waiting months for this and-"
"I'll pay for it." Sebastian interrupted gently, pushing Marley slightly away before she attacked the man. "That way there's no trouble and we can get out of your hair." He smiled charmingly at the grumpy man.
"As long as someone's paying." The man mumbled, grabbing both books and scanning them.
"Sebastian, I can't have you do that." Marley tried to protest but the boy ignored her.
"It's fine." He insisted, paying what he needed. "Think of it as a thank you for helping me find my book." He told her, signing something.
"Fine." She sighed and grabbed the bag from the cashier with a glare as the two walked out the door.
Sebastian reached into the bag and handed Marley her book. "Your comic book, m'lady."
"Why thank you." She said with a giggle, looking over it as she still couldn't believe she found it.
"So I guess this is good bye?" She asked, tucking the book under arms.
"No. You still have to pay me back." He joked with a wink, making Marley blush once again.
"Care to explain how I can do that?"
"Hmm, coffee? Tomorrow? At that little Lima Bean place you Lima folks all love." He suggested, stuffing his hands in his pocket with the bag wrapped around his wrist.
She grinned. "Sounds like a plan."
"Sounds good. I'll see you tomorrow, Marley." He whispered as he leaned near her ear and kissed her cheek. Smirking, he stepped back and walked down the sidewalk with a little wave.
Before he got completely out of sight, she realized something. "Wait! I don't have your number!" She yelled.
"Look on your book!" He called back with now a smile on lips as he slipped around the corner.
She scrunched her eyes in confusion as she looked. Now that she was paying more attention, she noticed writing on the left hand corner of the plastic cover with a phone number and note.
If you call, I'll pick up in a Flash ;)
She bursted out laughing and wanted tomorrow to come very soon.
The whole entire time writing this, 'Super Friend' kept playing in my head.
