Part III: Chapter 23 - This Was No Accident, This Was a Therapitic Chain of Events

June 20, 2014

Three things happened during June 20, 2014.

First was that (Y/N) was sent to the Rosewood Institute.

Second was that Newt came into this world.

And last but not least, a bargain was made. A bargain between James and the First Author.

The night when (Y/N) was wondering what James said by "Newt is coming." The same stormy night when Newt appeared out of nowhere. James was summoned by the First Author. He was standing in a grand office with a desk and bookshelves filled with books. In the middle of the room was a woman with dark hair, wearing a red velvet gown. James didn't know who she was, nor did he know where he was at first. That was until he saw the ring on her finger.

James has never seen the First Author before. So he never knew if they were a woman or a man. Also, whenever he asked around, people always say that the First Author always changes face and form. The few who've seen them said that they took the figure of a man or a woman. Due to them not knowing about the First Author's appearance, the Authors use they and them pronouns when talking about them.

The only way they knew that it was the First Author was by the ring. The same ring that this woman was wearing right now.

The First Author's true appearance wasn't the only thing the other Authors didn't know. Truth is that the First Author is pretty much a mystery. It was said that the First Author was the one who wrote this world to life. The very first realm to exist and it paved way to other people to become Authors and create more realms and write about them.

Getting an audience with the First Author, you had to do something that will catch their attention. But this was usually because you've done something infamous. Authors never meet the First Author because they did something commendable, if there were some cases of it, they're rare.

"I was having such a good time in the masquerade ball," they started to say, "but I had to come back here. James Dashner you just had to ruin my fun."

"What do you want?" James asked, but then he realized it was a mistake.

They glared at him with dark eyes. That glare sent shivers down James's spine. The First Author was really intimidating.

"Have you had fun playing God?" They asked as they walked towards James. "It's not the first time that Authors lost themselves in their own power. Some have received warnings from me, but others were so stuff necked that I had to strip away their power. You're asking me what I want? I want you to abide by the rules I gave you boy."

"Believe me when I say that I wasn't planning anything bad."

"Really?" They drawled. "You just brought two characters in this world with their memories intact. I turned a blind eye with the girl. I believed my curse would do the work for me. But then I see that you brought back another character. My curse will eventually take care of him, but I realized that it wasn't them who needed to be taken care of. It was you."
