Chapter 25 - After The End

Paradise

Months have passed since the encounter with the First Author. With John, (Y/N), and Newt being the only ones who remember everything, it was a little hard to adjust. But they tried.

Newt and (Y/N) reunited with the Gladers, Sticks, and a few other people in Paradise. The memories of the others were altered to think that Newt never got the Flare and that (Y/N) escaped and went to the Right Arm when everyone thought she died in the Maze. John and Angela were merely side characters that they didn't give much thought. But still, they were all together in Paradise now.

Paradise was literally paradise. (Y/N) couldn't think that she could find a place a beautiful as this. Everyone was still fresh from escaping W.I.C.K.E.D. But when they got to Paradise, they were filled with a new mission to make this place their home. So, everyone did the best they could to call Paradise home.

They made houses, planted farms, and made a memorial for those they've lost on their journey here. There were a list of names engraved in stone. (Y/N) wanted to add Thomas and Catherine, but she didn't for fear something wrong might happen if she did.

They were all quite busy, but they didn't mind. Newt was happy to be with (Y/N) and his friends. (Y/N) and John were happy for the distraction from their sadness.

The fact that (Y/N) also reunited with her brother added to the bliss and happiness that kept her sadness at bay. The First Author didn't do the job of making a memory where she introduces herself as his long lost sister. She was the one who had to do it herself. She did this when she had already spent around a month in Paradise.

For Thomas in this situation, she was just an ally and a friend; someone whom Newt used to tell him about. So when she told him that she was his long lost sister, she didn't know how he'd take it. He was silent about it at first. He stared at her, as if trying to make out her face or see if any of her features could trigger a memory. While (Y/N) couldn't look at him at all, not ready to see the unfamiliarity in his eyes. But to her surprise that was not the case.

"I've had some of my memories returned," he told her. "Most of them were about W.I.C.K.E.D. but there were also some with Teresa. I thought you were her, the little girl I saw in my visions. But I guess I was wrong."

"You're- you're taking this awfully well."

"I don't think anything will surprise me now." She doubted it.

When she told John that she told Thomas that they were siblings, John didn't take it well.

"What if he ends up remembering everything?" He scolded her. "You know what will happen to him if he does."

The truth was (Y/N) didn't think about the curse. Now that she remembered what it could possibly do to Thomas, she cursed at herself for being stupid.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't- I wasn't thinking."

"Never mind about that now," sighed John when he saw (Y/N)'s down fallen expression. "How'd he take it?"

"He said that he remembered me." Those words that filled (Y/N) with such joy earlier now filled her with dread. "He had some of his memories back and he saw me in some of them."
