So this was it. The end of (Y/N) (L/N)'s existence. She had seen the rise of women during the 1910s and early 1920s. She, herself, had been a pioneer in equality with her aspirations in traveling and expeditions. Something that was unheard of from women at the time.

She had dealt with critics, skeptics, sweltering heat, terrible sea sickness, various dangerous animals, even different native tribes, but this one? They captured her before she could even mutter the word "Amiga".

She regretted going on her own, having nobody to help her or take a share in the pain. Because misery loves company. (Y/N) immediately felt guilty just as the thought came to her head. How could she ever condemn someone else to the same fate as her?

The natives pulled her along by her arms. They followed a path further into the forest. (Y/N)'s mind kept wondering if the natives believed that she was a man. The trousers fitted her loosely, as did the shirt and vest, giving the illusion of no curves or otherwise 'womanly' figure. Her hair was tied back and hidden under a hat. The weeks of being in the forest had made her face more rough looking, long gone were her once delicate facial features.

She showed no emotion while walking along. Refusing to cry. She knew the repercussions of her boldness. Women and adventure just shouldn't mix. Women were meant to stay at home, with the children. But (Y/N) didn't have any children. She was only twenty-two when she left for South America.

Supposedly, she was planning on getting married after her schooling, to a old family friend that she had grown up with. Unfortunately he left with his father on some great expedition and never came back.

Despite the suspicions of what happened to them and the warnings of all the dangers, (Y/N) still wanted a life of exploration.

They came to a stop. The natives pushed her down to her knees.

This was the price she would have to pay.

Her hat was ripped off from her head. Her hair falling down into place. The natives muttered to each other in a hushed tone. Even though she couldn't understand their words (Y/N) was still able to understand the connotation. Shock.

A few minutes went by with the natives pulling at her hair and clothes, discussing. Presumably about what to do with her. It was then that the first couple tears fell down her dirt-stained cheeks.

While looking down (Y/N) heard another voice. It was speaking in the native language, but had a different accent. It was somewhat soothing, for a strange reason.

The voice yells something out sharply.

The arms and hands let go of her body, letting her fall to the ground. (Y/N) grasped the dirt and then let it go. Turning her head to the side to breathe.

She watched as a pair of boots walked over to her. Then crouched down blocking whatever sun shined through the trees. Her hair was pushed out of her face.

She could see clearly now. Her eyes lifted up to meet a pair of warm brown ones. It was a man. Bearded and with rough features. His calloused hand held on to her upper arm and helped pull her up.

She stood up with some difficulty, but his hands steadied her.

His eyes raked down her figure, taking note of her appearance. Instinctively, (Y/N) kept her head low. Only looking up at the man with her eyes. He started to speak to her in what she recognized as spanish but wasn't certain of what he said.

She did not speak. Afraid to do so.

Then he spoke again but this time using the language most familiar to her.

"Can you understand me now?"

The voice was fluid, the accent refreshing. She nodded her head, still afraid to speak. Her eyes met with the dead stares of the natives before landing back on the man.

"Are you American?" He asked.

She shook her head. "English," she forced out in a hoarse voice, "I'm from England." The mans grip on her arm loosens, and his eyes soften.

He asks her a few more questions and (Y/N) answers them with little words. She explains that she's just an explorer and means them no harm. The man then talked to the natives.

A brief discussion is held and a decision is made.

They lead (Y/N) towards a village. Small huts lined around the pathway. The trickling of water nearby. The English-speaking man left with a large group as (Y/N) was taken by a group of native women.

The women took her to a hut no bigger than the rest. Two began to remove her clothing while others poured water into what appeared to be a wooden tub. (Y/N) didn't stop them, afraid to upset them.

They peeled off the rest of the articles of clothing and helped her into the tub. (Y/N) shivered from the cold water. The natives scrubbed her body with cloths. Oddly enough, this reminded (Y/N) of when her mother would help her bathe. Her mind wandered to home.
