The moments that last a life time
Gut wrenching twists
Loss that jabs through the heart
At a loss for words
You gasp and try to breathe
But just choke on the pain
Your mind won't process it's real
You'll lie to yourself
Unable to believe
The truth or the lie
Your brain freezes
Your mind numbs
Your senses fade
Smoldering tears fill your eyes
Faster than sound travels
An immense river gushes forth
Maybe you don't shed a tear
Maybe your first reaction
Is blistering anger rising to the peak
From the core to the crust
You erupt like a volcano
Unable to bear the truth
You shut down
Retreating into that safe place
That happy memory
Until the reality doesn't seem so real
The life drips out from your toes
And all the pain is focused behind your nose
And below your chin
The nightmare takes hold
No colors pop anymore
They're all blending together
Bleeding into darker shades
The tears fall
As the emotions rage
You have no control
You are lost
All these feelings you can't comprehend
And it feels like every wall has boxed you in
The walls in your head shrink
And fire burns through your whole being
You bargain with life with death with god with yourself
To let you wake up
To trade places
But time goes on
Slowly
But while you stood there
Feeling everything you just read
Only a few seconds actually passed
Suffering slows time down
To a fraction of its original pace
Only a few seconds pass
When you receive that blow
And you break down
Internally
Externally
Completely shut off
You won't ever forget
Every instance in life
That one moment
Lasts a life time
