"I hope you all are enjoying your week so far and Rob, your birthday is this weekend. What are you planning on doing?" Dr. Harper says in the middle of the announcement. "I haven't thought of anything yet, but thank you everyone for the wishes" he says. The other members wish him 'Happy Birthday' early as Dr. Harper speaks about the next subject: trust and forgiveness.
"Now, trust is something that can be earned, yet fragile, however, no man is an island. Every person has experienced some form of betrayal at least once in their lives, but we can't allow it to believe everyone is out to get us" . "What about those who abuse our trust, but expect us to forgive them?" one member asks. "That's a good point to bring up. Forgiveness is more for you, than the other person. We all have a choice, whether we forgive the people who hurt us and move on or hold them responsible for their errors and remember how badly they hurt us". They listen and discuss the topic of both subjects further until the end of the meeting.
As everyone leaves, Kenya catches up with Rob, who left before everyone. "Hey, usually you're the one to tries to catch up to me" she jokes. Rob smiles. "Yeah, I got some stuff on my mind. It's just my birthday is coming up and so much has happened. I think I'm going to stay in this year" he says. Kenya thinks of something Rob may like and they leave.
Kenya can sense something was troubling Rob, but he wouldn't say. Could he have missed L.A.? Fab? His family? All of it?. Unfortunately, Fab had moved and Rob doesn't any contact with him and his parents had since passed away. Also, Rob wanted to stay out of L.A. for a while, so what would he like for his birthday? Kenya gets an idea and smiles.

Rob wakes up to see another year, but he didn't feel as excited. This was the first time he was away from the one place he called home for some time and no one was here to wish him a 'Happy Birthday'. Last year, he invited some people over and they all went out clubbing that night until the next morning. He may have gotten a hangover and virtually no sleep, but it was the night of his life. People were clapping for him, dancing with him, cheering him on, rounds of drinks were non-stop and so were some of the women coming on to him. Even back then he was thinking if this was going to be his whole life. What happens when everyone else goes home and decide there's more than partying? Rob doesn't want to be known as that old guy still getting drinks and chasing girls.
He goes to get cleaned up and comes back out moments later to hear music playing outside his door. Curious, Rob opens the front door and sees a pair of speakers playing Janet Jackson's "Let's Wait Awhile".
A note is sitting on top of the speakers. 'I remember you wanting these, hope they are the right ones - Kenya'. Rob takes the speakers inside and sets them in his living room next to his guitar. When he goes to thank Kenya, he turns to see her in his apartment, wearing a 3-PC Playboy bunny costume.
"Happy Birthday, Rob" Kenya says. Rob, being too stunned to speak, replies after a moment. "Thanks, I was just about to stop over to thank you for the speakers. I like them and they're perfect". "That's great. I'm glad you like them". Kenya says, hugging him. Rob hugs her back, thinking of doing other things with her. He puts it out his mind as they sit down. "So, what are you going to do today?". "I'm not really sure. I didn't want to go out clubbing like I did last year, I don't have anyone to invite". "What about the guys who were with you at the release party?". "They got something else planned and we only hung out because they heard of the party and I said I can get them in. We don't really hang out like that" he says. Kenya hears this, thinking this is probably a regular thing for Rob. "Well, maybe the two of us can celebrate. I made some treats we can share, I'll go get them" she says, going back to her apartment.
Rob starts to get thoughts of Kenya again. 'Damn, she looks so good in that costume. She wants to give you a happy ending to this birthday'. "Stop that, that's not why she's here". 'Oh, come on! We seen this before, a woman who is all buttoned up wants a man who will help her to let her hair down. If you don't make your move, another man will do it for you'.
He continues to battle his mind with these thoughts, until Kenya comes back with a plate of brownies, cookies and pieces of cake with a bottle of wine. "Wow, you weren't kidding about these treats". Kenya giggles, lighting a few candles and singing 'Happy Birthday' to him. Rob blows out the candles and goes to take a piece of cake. Kenya takes a cookie and pours some wine in a glass for the both of them. "This tastes very good". "It is? Try this one". Kenya takes a brownie and feeds it to him. "This one tastes better."
They continue to indulge and drink wine. After a while they talk about secrets they kept and things they would want to do. Rob tells Kenya about wanting to act and Kenya goes further into publishing a book. "Do you think what we want to do is crazy? I mean, they are not exactly what is common". Kenya says. "No, I don't think it's crazy, nor it should be that way. We work hard to get what we want and did things we didn't like to get there, so it shouldn't be anyone's problem" Rob says. Kenya starts to nuzzle him. "Uh...Kenya? Are you OK?" She nods. "I have another secret". "What is it?". "I don't know if I should tell you. You may tease me again". "No, I won't, you can tell me". "OK, I always had a crush on you. I thought you were very cute when you first came out. You seem to be happy and you made everyone feel great to be around you. Someone who would make me feel they can love me".
Rob listens to more of Kenya's secret. "Why didn't you tell me?". "You must have heard that a million times. Besides, how do I know if you would even like me? How can I be sure you won't tell me only what I want to hear and leave me for someone else?" Kenya asks softly. "I'll show you". They both stand up and move closer together.
The music plays through the speakers again, with Maxwell's "Whenever Wherever Whatever".
They both dance to the tempo, with Kenya's head resting on Rob's chest. He moves his hands down to the small of her back, wrapping his arms around her. Kenya feels like she's in a dream as they silently continue moving to the song. Rob lifts her head and looks into her eyes. They move in and share a passionate kiss, before moving back to sit on the couch. "What are we doing right now?" Kenya asks. "We're kissing" Rob answers, kissing her shoulder. "I don't know any friends who kiss like this". "They do and this is to return the one you gave me". He goes to kiss her again, but she hesitates. "I think we should slow this down a little". "Please, Kenya? You're the only friend I have right now, don't you trust me?". She doesn't answer. "I won't make you do anything you're not comfortable doing. Please stay".
Time has flown by and the two start to fall asleep. Kenya cuddles Rob, while he holds her against him, rubbing her gently. Kenya opens her eyes and sees Rob sleeping softly. She writes a note and leaves quietly to her apartment. Rob wakes up the next morning to find Kenya has left a note for him. 'Had to go and get ready for work, but love to do this again. - Kenya'. He gets the plate of leftover sweets and puts it in the kitchen. His mind starts to wander on Kenya again. She went through a lot of trouble to do all this for him and wearing that cute costume. He had to use all the restraint he had not to go any further. The thoughts make him grab some more ice to eat as he turns on the radio.
"Good morning Minneapolis! We're in for another hot day today with a high of 89 degrees, so stay hydrated and stay cool. We recommend you only go out if you must, children and seniors, are advised to stay indoors" the announcer says. It comes as no surprise, seeing the weather has been this way for days now. Rob goes to shower and comes out he finishes, but doesn't hear the radio play anymore. He flips the light switch, but the lights don't come on.
