Katie's POV
I confusedly looked at Leena before getting up and following the assistant backstage. "Wait, what's going on?" I asked.
"There's someone here for you. He says he knows you. He's in the back." I walked to the back and stopped cold when I saw a familiar figure standing there.
David McCulley. The boy I had been with for a year. The boy who had broken my heart for another girl. The boy who had driven me right into the arms of One Direction. The boy I had to thank for knowing of my boyfriend. The boy, who I was pretty sure, had been friends with Niall in school.
I suddenly realized I had never told Niall the name of the boy who had put me through such a hard time a few years ago, but when I saw Niall on the X-Factor, I knew I had recognized him from pictures that David had showed me of him and his friends. David could have very well been invited by Niall himself. The questin was, then why was he asking for me?
I didn't dare make a sound. I was quiet and still, and David stayed turned around, looking at a bulletin board of papers and notices. I heard footsteps behind me and turned my head to see Niall coming in the room. "Hey! David! Good to see ya!" He went up to David and hugged him before coming back and putting his arm around my waist. "I'd like to introduce you to my girlfriend. This is Cathleen O'Neill." Niall said, and I forced a smile and held out my hand. "Go on, you guys can hug, it's alright. I think you'll be good friends."
I looked to David and he had a huge smile on his face and gave me a hug. I only slightly put my arms around him. I really noticed the difference between him and Niall in that moment. David felt cold, not from a temperature standpoint, but cold as in his heart just kind of hurt me. His hug felt so different than those from Niall. Niall's hugs were warm, and they made me feel safe, where as David's brought back bad memories, and it just gave a bad feeling. I pulled away almost as quickly as he hugged me. I stepped back by Niall.
"So how's Mullingar, David?"
"It's good, mate, real good. Yea, Sean's doing alright. He says hello."
"Oh, that's good. I'll see him soon, though. I'm going to come back for a week to see Katie before she leaves for UCD."
"Oh nice, Katie. What're you sudying?"
"Um, uh, I'm majoring, in, uh, well, I've, uh--" I stammered out. David gave me a loss for words, in a very bad way.
"You've got a major in public relations right? And a journlism minor?" Niall asked.
"Yea, um, that. That's, uh, what, I'm, uh, doing."
"Niall, we've got soundcheck and the meet and greet." Paul said from the doorway. Niall gave me a kiss and promised to see me later before he left. I turned to David, my face hot with anger.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"What do you mean? My sweet friend Niall invited me, and I was hoping I could come to see you again." He said.
"Why me?"
"I completely regret breaking up with you. You've gotten so beautiful..." He slid his figer across my cheek, and I slapped his hand away.
"I wasn't beautiful before?"
"Well, we've both grown, and changed."
"I've grown and changed. You just seem to be the ass you were two years ago, with a different haircut."
"Oh come on, Katie. This is ridiculous. You and I were great together."
"No we weren't. You made me unhappy, and I always felt terrible around you."
