The council after I had said that there was going to be a dormant hybrid battle that was going to wage soon, chaos ensued and I was quickly taken back to my cell where I sat with my face in my palms. I got what I wanted but in getting what I wished, I got more and discovered so many more things that were terrifying.

The army master had created was only males because I was the only female creation he ever had. Many had told me so in my time of being a vampire. But my problem was that if that was the case then why did he turn me? If males are stronger and more likely to survive in battle then why did he change me?

A sound at my door had me looking up and soon it opened, my eyes glancing over to see the alpha king standing there in all of his glory. I put my face back down and listened but didn't move to acknowledge him.

"I wish to speak to you further about this Janine," he said and a light metal clanking followed by the boom of my door had me looking up. They had brought a chair in for him and he was currently sitting on it looking relaxed and at ease. He apparently trusted me enough to be alone..

"Why do you not have guards here to protect you?" I asked, curiosity and caution seeping into me. His piercing blue eyes seemed to shine in the dim light cast from the hallway.

"You gave yourself up, wished to be killed in exchange for information and openly gave us intel on your master that could get him killed. So I guess I should ask why you don't feel the need for me to have protection even though you are here of your own free will?" A smirk graced my lips and I leaned back against the wall as my feet dangled off the edge of the bed.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," I said and crossed my arms under my breasts, causing them to protrude up, stressing my shirt. His eyes snapped to my action and within seconds I realized an interesting truth.

"You aren't mated," I whispered but it was too late for him to take back what he had done. Where alphas like alpha Cole would have kept his eyes on mine out of respect and devotion to his mate, this alpha looked and appeared to like what he saw. I bet that would rile James up.

"No I am not. But I am not into necrophilia so it would never happen anyways." The insult was strong enough for me to huff and stand. The king mirrored my actions and when I approached him quickly, he didn't hesitate to growl at me in warning. I took one of his hands and forced it to my chest, a red tint painting his cheeks. Where my skin was a bit cold his hand warmed it causing a soft sigh to release from my lips.

"What are you-" His words cut off and I knew why. He looked down at his hand as if he wasn't sure it was his.

"I still have a heart beat. I think that counts as alive, Mr. Alpha King." He pulled his arm back to himself and stared at where my heart is as if it were going to crawl out of my chest and eat him.

"How is that possible. Vampires don't have pulses." I shook my head and sat down on the bed again, him following suit on his chair.

"One beat per minute. Vampires have the average of about one heart beat per minute. That is why we are concidered dead. Because we should have so much more. I actually checked mine and it was five so I am above average but we are technically still living." I crossed my legs and laid back.

"Oh." Was all that he was able to say with an unreadable expression on his face.

"Yeah. But going back to my reasoning behind why I gave everything up... it is because I want to be with James. But I can't while I am what I am." Marcus set his elbows on his knees as he bent forward, trying to connect with me but not on a physical level.

"I don't get it. You want him to bite and kill you so why would you still want to be with him?"

"You wouldn't. He and I have quite the history together. When he broke things off before he came of age for his wolf and I moved away, it was hard to really fix things since we were both very broken. James found a new girl to drown his sorrows in and I found nothing but strangers and a school that didn't welcome me." It hurt to think back on it but something told me that I could trust this guy so I went on.
