The groans and screams were hard to drown out. Many females had been taken and it wasn't like the town hadn't noticed. Often I had heard police vehicles rush past with sirens blaring their warning that something was amiss. This town was not meant to support a coven sized vampire horde.
But the next morning there were no girls in sight and the day went on as the town rejoiced at having their daughters or wives returned. Though the minds of any involved were wiped, they could still feel that they had left.
The males were all down in the basement sleeping where the sun wouldn't get them while I slept in my room with heavy drapes. But the problem I was facing was that I could not sleep. Not while my mind was in a maelstrom of worry. Little time I had to finish what I had started and to achieve the goal I had once set out to do.
Worry hung over me like a cloud that dropped little droplets of doubt on every part of me leaving no place dry. Every time I thought of an idea to keep everyone from getting hurt, my thoughts on both master and the wolf king clashing was dangerous.
Plus if I did manage to do the science right, would that mean that if I won that James and I would be mates like we are meant to be. Kestrel wouldn't be the happiest at all. Just thinking about her suffering knowing that she can never have James made me all the happier.
But with me having been a vampire, would the pack accept me as the alpha female? As the Luna? With time I'm sure they would but what if they didn't? People have the right to challenge for Alpha. If a male challenged James, what would happen? Would he win? Would he lose?
No matter the worry I felt, that mate side of me who wishes she could see him again just shrugged and thought of a life we could have together. The ideal life that I could never have as a vampire.
A knock came at my door that had me sitting up and shuffling to the frame. When the door was open, one of my brothers was there with an envelope in his hand.
"From Master," was all he said as he handed it to me and left. How he was still standing, I have no idea. Vampires don't do well in the day, let alone be up during it. I didn't dwell on it for long as I turned and sat on my bed, opening the envelope and pulling out a card that simply stated, Come Here. I sighed and stood again, going to my bathroom and brush my hair out, some knots causing me grief because of the tossing and turning I had done.
Not bothering to change, I exited my room noticing that a male was standing by my door.
"Where are you going?" His surprisingly tenor voice asked. I lifted the paper in my fingers up.
"He wants to see me." He nodded, his brown locks falling into his eyes before he returned to what he was doing before. It took little time before I standing before Master's doors again, the light of day peaking though some windows making me nervous. I knocked once and received an Enter in response.
If I thought before that masters door was the absence of light, then I was sorely mistaken. The darkness of the room was so black that all I could see were masters shining eyes as he laid in his bed, staring at me with an unfathomable lust.
"Close the door," he said as he sat up to welcome me. I did so, my nerves spiking to an all time high. Vampires could see well in the dark but even I couldn't see anything in here.
"You requested to see me master? Is something the matter?" I tried to keep my eyes down but I needed something to keep myself focused and his orbs were the only things in sight I could see to focus on.
"Yes. I wished to know more about your visit with Adam and Ben. It seems suspicious that they left a few hours after your capture." I nodded and showed no sign of change.
" As I had said master, I had gone to check up on them for you as you had stated that they were acting strange. During my visit, they were most definitely not acting like themselves." Adam wasn't himself as a vampire. He even harmed his own mother and she was the most valuable person to him in his whole life.
"I can sense your words are true. I suppose you are not to blame. Although I will still be keeping my eyes on you to make sure nothing similar may happen again. We don't need my prized creation getting kidnapped again." Complete curiosity and repulsion filled me at that but I kept my curiosity much higher.
"Master, may I ask you about something?" I watched as his orbs lifted and lowered in a nod like two flashlights moving in sync.
"Why have you never made a female until me? Many brothers have told me that I am your only female so why is that?" The list that had been in his orbs shifted and soon became ones of sadness and anger.
"I suppose you would ask that. Two hundred years ago, I had a bit of an adventurous streak through this part of the country. Girls and booze and blood every night. I never stopped. Until I met her. She was the definition of beauty as I had seen many gorgeous women but none had matched up to her. I had considered changing her but even though I wanted more than anything to take her blood and make her mine, I couldn't hurt her like that. She was too precious to do so. She was my other half, my-"
"- soul mate." I finished. A flicker of deeper sadness radiated off of him and a candle by the bed side came on as I noticed a chair by the bed. He extended his arm toward the seat and I quietly took it and listened more.
"I had always turned males because of their petty ambitions but women were more complex and although they could hold grudges, they have the power to change worlds. So I kept to males. I wanted my love to be like me so we could live for all eternity together. But... wolves killed her." The flicker of anger that had been in his eyes became a raging fire as even the candle by his bed roared to life.
"Those mutts took everything from me and so now I will take everything from them. Their homes, their families, and their lives. All of it." It made more sense to me but something was still missing.
"So why am I so important?" The anger that had been seeping out of him in waves drew back as I could feel the tsunami drawing close as he was going to hit me with the full truth.
"Because you look just like my lost love. I believe that you are her reincarnated."
