The walk to Adam's house was peaceful and nice. I wanted to walk for hours in this level of peace but I knew I wasn't going to be able to. I needed to check on Adam.
I knocked on his door a few times and waited until the door opened to reveal Adam's mother. She looked confused for a moment before she gestured me in. With a gentle smile I entered and strode into her living room to find Adam and Ben sitting on the couch wrapped in each other's arms.
When I glanced back to the woman who let me in, she looked uncomfortable and down right tired. It was only then that I noticed how pale she was and the numerous fang marks on her neck that were in various levels of healing.
What have I done?
"Adam. We need to talk." He separated his lips from Ben's with a hiss before he returned to the other male's flesh.
"Adam, now!" I used some of my compulsion on him and for a moment I was sure that it had no effect on him but when he stopped and looked at me with surprise, I knew it worked. Where wolves bowed down to the higher ranks, vampires bow to the older vampires. I was older than him as a vampire so his instincts still told him to submit and listen.
"What is so important that you are taking away from my time with my beloved?" My brows furrowed for a moment before I dared ask,
"Are you guys soul mates?" Even Ben who had been silent until now nodded with a look of adoration for my friend in his eyes.
"We found out right after I turned," Adam mused and I held back from wanting to face palm myself. It all sounded too cheesy.
"Okay, okay. Um, to the point then, you need to leave here," I said with no note of sarcasm but every bit of seriousness I could possess. Now it was my friend's turn to furrow his brows.
"What do you mean leave?" I reached back for the female human behind me and pulled her up to me.
"I mean leave. Go far away and never come back until the generations don't remember your name." Adam and Ben stood with irritation on their faces, Adam more so for being told to leave and Ben for me threatening his beloved.
"Why should I leave? I finally have everything I ever wanted. I got my love, eternal life... what more could I ever want?" I pulled his mom's hair away from her neck and shoulders and tilted her head to the side.
"This is why Adam! You have destroyed your mother by compulsing her into a vegetable and biting her like a blood bag. In your quest for what you wanted, you destroyed what you already had." A look of pure shock filled his features and for a moment I was sure that I had seen his lip quiver.
"Mom?" Tears were in her eyes but she looked soulless as she stared at nothing with a blank look.
"Take the time you have to say goodbye but you must leave. Master will hunt you both down but I have no doubt that you both could find a way to take care of yourselves. I will have someone make sure your mother is taken care of but you must go before you completely destroy her." I let her hair fall back to where it was and she righted her own head again. I strode up to my friend and wrapped my arms around him knowing full well I may never see him again.
"I found my soul mate too Adam. It was James all along. But I can't be with him as I am now. We can never be if I don't find a way to fix what I did. So as a parting gift for the both of us, I will give you the gift that I owe you. I will have the best and most kindest people I know care for her. You have my word on my life." Pulling away from him, my orbs found his and I flashed them to show that I meant what I said. Not only was more surprise on his face but now he looked so broken that I am sure it will take him years to heal from this.
My feet moved of their own accord and I went up to Adam's mother, my fangs descending as I did so.
I punctured my finger with a fang and ran it along her wounds on her neck, all of them healing rapidly as my blood helped her heal. Once I was sure they were all gone, I lined my eyes up with hers and said,
"What you have seen the past two weeks never happened. Your son has run off because he needed time to come to terms with who he is. Not only is this not your fault but you are proud that he was your son and that he believed that he could go out into the world on his own. You will not search for him and you will tell anyone who asks about him that he went out into the world to do his own thing. As for yourself, I want you to pack what you want with you and go north about two hours to a small milling town. There you will find a family who will take you in and you will tell them that you needed help. If they ask who sent you, say their little angel. They will understand. For now, say goodbye to your son. After you do, start packing." When I blinked, she did too and the light that had been gone from her eyes was back.
She took both Ben and I in and immediately offered tea for us.
"I'm afraid I can't today. But maybe next time," I said politely. Ben also declined and helped his beloved to say goodbye to his mother. As he did so, I left the poor family behind as I went off to do what needed to be done.
