Once more the fear of the boundary seeped into me but this time, I felt no true fear as they knew I was better alive than dead. With a deep breath and a heart beat of regret, my feet took me across the invisible boarder that marked my death.

Immediately the sensation of a heard of cattle came right at me and for a moment I was sure I was going to be killed but as the snarling masses of fur and teeth came at me, I dropped to my knees and put my hands up.

They all froze in their advances toward me, at least ten of them surrounding my small form.

"I wish to speak with the alpha." They all stopped snarling and looked between one another as if they weren't hearing it right.

A wolf that was in human form stepped out from behind the wolves and advanced toward me. It was Kestrel. Her sandy blonde and brown hair bounced with her strides and her outfit said, 'I demand attention'. I wanted to growl or hiss at her but I held back.

"Why do you want to speak with James? I thought you were over him?" I rolled my eyes.

"Because I have a right to speak with him." Soon two large males burst through the trees and up to Kestrel's side.

"What do you want Janine?" Logan asked as James took in the fact I was here and so boldly demanding to talk to him.

"What do I want? Well, that is easy. I wish to surrender." Their collective gasps and wolfy looks of astonishment almost made me laugh but I held it in as I had expected this.

"Surrender?" James asked. I nodded and lowered my hands but didn't move from my knees. The wolves growled lowly at my action but they remained still, waiting for their alpha's orders.

"Is there an echo in here? I swear I keep repeating myself." I sighed and sat back on my heels while they tried to figure out what to do.

"If you guys don't take me captive soon then I'm just gonna go but I have information that you all need so it would benefit you if you took me as your prisoner." I could see the war on James's face as he tried to decide if he should capture his mate. I saw the sagging of his shoulders before two wolves in wolf form approached me and another two went behind some trees to change. They came back out in human form, their bodies covered my minimal clothing as they hurried to my side and grabbed my arms and held them behind me.

I hissed in pain. A low growl echoed my hiss and everyone turned toward the wolf it had come from. James looked just as astonished as everyone else and I chuckled a bit to break the silence and draw the attention to me.

"So do I get a bed or a dirt floor? I hope a bed cause the one I've been sleeping on is a piece of shit." The wolves holding me started to practically carry me further into the woods away from the pack houses and I tried to remember the way just in case I would get into a tight situation and my plan didn't work.

When we came upon a small shack I was about to laugh at the size. It was no bigger than a tool shed and even a weak human child could break the boards that looked like they were ready to fall apart. Some had.

But as we entered, a staircase met us and down we went into its depths. About twenty steps down we strode into a large hallway that was lined with doors with one at the end. The doors to the side were shiny and looked to be infused with something but I couldn't tell without getting too close. A small window on each one about face height decorated each except for the one at the very end that was black in color and looked about as foreboding as this place felt.

"So master suite then?" I joked and the wolves holding me from escaping pushed a button at the entrance to the hallway and the first door to my right opened up. Roughly they threw me in and I landed on the ground with an umph.

"Such gentlemen." James stood at the door this time as I looked back, Kestrel by his side with a snide face full of nothing but glee.

"Babe, can't we just kill her now? I mean she is a vampire." I hissed at her attitude.

"Care to say that to my face?" She gave me no mind as if wasn't just a few yards away on the floor. James gave her a look and motioned for her to leave. She gave me an evil smile but a small wounded scowl to the alpha. With little more than a flutter of her hair, she left.

"Everyone leave. I need to talk to her alone." The wolves all lowered their heads to him and left. Now it was just James and I.

"Why did you allow yourself to be captured? Why did you surrender?" I stood up and dusted my pants off with my palms, looking around to see a bed on an actual frame. Sweet.

"Is it so hard to believe that I gave up?" When I saw his face, he looked as if he didn't even believe my words. Hell I didn't even believe my own words.

"Okay, okay. Yeah I didn't believe myself there. Well I have information that I wish to give to you guys and all I as in return is that you kill me on Halloween." I couldn't quite place his expression but I could tell that his wolf was not pleased with my words.

"You want death for information? You really are one strange woman, that is for sure." I shrugged and sat on the bed. Leaning back against the wall, my words came simply and easy.

"But I won't tell just anyone. I wish to tell my words to the wolf council." His eyes narrowed and I finally placed his new expression.

Suspicion.

"How do you know about them?" I gave him a dead pan look.

"You do realize that I have been spying on you for the past few weeks right? Like did you even think that I wouldn't find out as much as I could? It was easy to get information on your allies and even discover that the council hasn't been exactly pleased with you for letting me live so long. An old flame I believe I was referred as."

"But that was only written to me from another alpha. There was no way..." His posture changed and became tense as I could see the anger in him start to rise.

"The furniture company." I started to clap slowly and eventually I chuckled along with it.

"Yeah. I thought your home decorating needed a change. Browns are good but not in a blue house. Go with more blacks or whites. Hell, even a sailor theme would match but not browns." He ran a hand through his dark hair and groaned with frustration.

"Besides, the other alpha is super nice. Wish he wasn't mated. He would be a sweet mate." He growled at me lowly and stormed into the cell with me and pinned me between his arms.

"How dare you say that! I am your mate, not him. You are mine. Mine!" My expression changed but I waited until he realized what I said. It didn't take long before his already narrowed eyes became slits as he finally understood what I said.

"You went and spied on his pack too. Alpha Cole." I touched his nose and snapped with my other hand.

"Bingo!"

"I need time away from you to think before I do something I will regret." With that he exited my cell and closed the door, a lock sounding as it clicked into place.

"Take your time. I've only got a little over a week and a half before I want to die!"
