In my salmon colored room that is decorated with pictures of actors and artist I love- well, loved- I was transferring my clothes from my chestnut-wooden dresser to my black duffel bag.
I paused in my packing. I knew I would miss my mother, father, and brother. However, the thought of how my new, uncontrollable thirst has drawn me to them a few times, I began to worry that I would lose control and attack them.
Closing my duffel bag, I picked up a pen and note book from my desk and wrote to my family.
I may never see you again but there is something I need to do now that I can. Don't bother searching for me because you will not find me. Love you all with my entire being. -Janine
It was my dad's idea to call me Janine after a stripper he had known a while back. My mother didn't like it much but has dealt with it this long and she can deal with it for the rest of her life.
I set the note on my bed and grabbed my duffel bag and book bag full of normal snacks and a few extra rare steaks from the freezer.
Though it is the beginning of October, I plan to wait until All Hallows Eve to execute my mission and fulfill my revenge. He would be happier that I did it on that day; the day where the gap between our worlds is opened. Vampires are easily made on that night.
I used my vampiric speed to hurry over to my window, draped by extra heavy black curtains that I had installed. Mom and Dad had asked why I had them put in but I couldn't exactly tell them that I was a vampire now and the slightest sunlight burns my skin to chars. I told them instead that I had hit my head and my eyes were sensitive to light now. That is also the reason I'm not in school right now.
Pulling back the curtains and opening the window, I bent down and stepped onto the damp soil of our side yard. The night was silent, the full moon was shining down through the clouds above. I was safe for about five hours or at least until the sun would rise.
Quietly sliding my window back into place, I turned around and set off for my home town. If I walk, it would take about three days to get there, but if I was to start the 'game', I needed to start tomorrow.
So I took off running, passing from town to town in about three minute intervals easily zooming past cars on the road. I ran by the interstate in the treeline that ran up and down both sides of the roads.
Despite the weight on my shoulders, I ended up in town after about twenty minutes, when normally by car it took an hour and a half.
When my feet stopped running, I was standing in the center of my old town. Known for its old ties to the railroad and its rivers, this town was always a quiet little town that has never seen trouble or danger. At least, not until now.
I grinned, ready for this game of cat and mouse. And since I now only sleep during the day, I had some time to kill and research to do.
To my left is a gas station, and to my right a jewelry store; behind me is Cathy's restaurant and a thrift store.
If I was to head left, I would head downtown' right or forward, uptown. I decided neither
Using my vampiric sense of smell, I turned around and headed towards on of my old friend's house. He would help me locate James easier than sniffing him out; though I have a general idea of where he is.
Finding Adam's house, I set my bags next to the front porch that was a white color. Sneaking around to his window, I took in a deep breath, making sure that it was his.
Finalizing that it was indeed Adam's from the scent of bleach and men's cologne, I looked in to where he was sleeping under his big black covers. Adam's short snow-blonde hair was all over the place. In his white tank-top and red pj-pants, he looked helpless. I tapped on his window softly, hopeful to get his attention.
