“How are they looking?” Kelly asks from her spot on the counter.

Her nose has been stuck in her phone all night.

“Not good,” I reply solonmly, staring at the cookies. We placed them too close together on the sheet, so I suppose we just made "cookie."

One giant cookie is better than having the dough fall off the sheet like it did last time. Why we continued to make things when we were both terrible cooks, I'd never understand.

Tonight however, Kelly wasn't very much help. Her mind was clearly somewhere else, probably thinking about whoever was on the other end of that phone of hers.

Curious, I snatch it out of her hand, retreating to the other side of the kitchen to look through it.

She marches over to me angrily. “Imani Elise Williams! Give me back my phone or so help me–”

“Chill,” I hand her back her phone, “no need to bring middle names into this.”

She rolls her eyes.

“By the way...who's Ryan?” I tease playfully.

She looks up from her phone briefly and begins to smile.

“Ooh!” I exclaim getting excited. “Is he cute?”

Pink begins to stain her cheeks and neck, letting me know that she's not really ignoring me.

“He must be cute, you're blushing!”

“No I'm not!” She protests, her cheeks turning a darker shade of pink.

We stare at each other for a moment before I laugh, breaking the silence. “You're such a liar.”

She smirks coyly and doesn't say anything.

"Where'd you meet him?" I ask.

Her smile is evident as she becomes significantly more animated. "I met him at Starbucks the other day!"

"Oooh! So he likes coffee." I comment. "I definitely approve. What else?"

She opens her mouth to speak but catches herself.

"Ah, ah, ah. I'm not gonna tell you anything else until you tell me more about this guy you've been seeing.”

It's my turn to get shy and blush.

Kelly smirks. “Yeah, don't think I haven't noticed you being extra happy for no damn reason and texting God knows who all the time."

When she folds her arms over her chest, I know she means business. "You gotta tell me something."

"Is it serious? How old is he? Tell me something concrete. I feel like you're always super vague when you talk about him.”

She's shooting questions at me so fast, I can barely keep up. I'm trying my best to answer as quickly and as honest as possible.

“It's still new so I don't know how serious we'll get." I lean against the counter as casually as I possibly can.

Kelly raises a brow skeptically. "It's not serious, but he gave you that necklace? I call bullshit."
