Ethan POV

I walk into our shabby one bedroom apartment with a stupid grin on my face.

I just got back from class, and I'm excited, because I have a big surprise for Rosaline.

I pull out the small ring box, and open it, making sure the ring is positioned right in the box.

I saved up for months to buy this for her, and although it isn't much, I just know she'll love it.

It's a simple gold band with a small oval cut ruby in the center. Two small diamonds adorn each side of the ruby; the ring sparkles, even in the dim lighting.

I could've asked my parents for money and bought her something extravagant and flashy, but it's not her style. Plus, I feel like it means more that I did this on my own.

I close the box and stuff it back into my pocket.

"Rose, I'm home!" I call, making my way to our bedroom.

I frown when I see that the lights are off.

"Rosaline?" I call again, shrugging off my jacket and flicking on the light.

I notice the bathroom light is on and I smile, approaching the door.

"Rose didn't you hear me calling you?" I ask as I twist the doorknob.

The door is locked.

She never locks the door.

My heart begins to beat faster as I press my ear to the door. The faint sound of rushing water is decipherable, and I sigh.

She must be in the shower.

"Rosie, baby when you're finished, meet me in the den. I've got a surprise for you." I can barely hide the excitement in my voice.

I'm about to walk away when suddenly my shoes feel heavy. I look down to see water pooling around my feet as it trickles out from underneath the door.
