Ethan POV
I walk into the kitchen and Imani's busy wiping something up on the counter.
I clear my throat so she'll notice me.
The moment I make a sound, her eyes dart to mine and she sucks her teeth. She scrubs viciously at the counter, although there's no visible mess.
"Hey."
She rolls her eyes. Slamming the cloth on the counter. "Don't 'hey' me." She's seething.
I walk up to the counter, placing my hands on the discarded towel, I absentmindedly move it from side to side. "Can I talk to you for a sec?"
She rolls her eyes at me and her laugh is humorless.
"Go talk to that girl, you two seem real friendly."
My patience is running thin."I don't want to talk to her. I want to talk to you Imani."
"Well that's too bad, because I don't have anything to say to you." She crosses her arms stubbornly, looking up at the ceiling.
"Then I'll talk, you listen."
She snatches the towel from my hand, "I don't want to listen to anything you have to say Ethan."
I huff, irritated. "Okay. When you're ready to listen, and stop being difficult, I'll be upstairs." I say through gritted teeth.

Imani POV
It takes me a moment to calm down, and against my better judgment, I follow Ethan upstairs.
He leads me to a room I've never been to before, and it doesn't take me long to realize it's his.
If I wasn't so angry, I'd take the time to appreciate the doors that open up to a balcony with a beautiful view of the beach, and the old looking guitar that rests against a comfortable looking bean bag chair.
Instead I slam the door behind me. "Okay. I'm here, what do you want?"
His furrowed brows relax, and a look of concern takes over his features. "Why are you mad?"
I raise a brow, "Who says I'm mad?"
His snickers to himself, "Have you seen yourself lately? I'm surprised smoke isn't coming out your ears right now."
I roll my eyes.
"Mani, what's the matter?"
I feel my composure cracking, and when he puts his hand on my shoulder, it all but crumbles.
"I feel stupid."
"Why?"
Like he doesn't already know.
