Imani POV

Ever since Jade left last Sunday, Ethan's been constantly texting her and facetiming her.

If she were anybody else, I'd be jealous, but I trust Ethan, and I know she only has good intentions when it comes to him.

That being said, Ethan's been really distracted lately, and we haven't had a lot of time to ourselves.

Hopefully with what we have planned for tonight, that'll all change.

Ironically, the whole plan rides on Kelly's cooperation.

I walk into the kitchen where Kelly sits at the counter eating a salad and scrolling through her phone.

I sit on the stool next to her and rap my nails on the countertop.

She glances up briefly, acknowledging me. "Hey, Mani."

"Hi best friend." I turn fully towards her and smile brightly.

Kelly raises an eyebrow and peers at me out of the corner of her eye. "What's up?"

"Nothing much," I say nonchalantly scanning the room. "You look nice today," I compliment. "Did you do something different to your hair?"

Kelly puts down her phone, and drops her fork into bowl. She turns to me with a knowing look. "What is it? What do you want? Because we both know I look like a trashcan right now, and my hair's been in this same bun for three days."

I sigh, "I need to borrow your car." I state simply, cutting to the chase.

"What for?" She looks me up and down, smiling in approval. "You got a hot date or somethin?"

I laugh looking down at my outfit.

Ethan didn't tell me where we were going so I didn't go all out. I was wearing a white bralette top that had an intracate orange and pink pattern, with light-wash high waisted jeans. I layered it with a soft tan sweater in case it got cold. My makeup was light and natural except for my eyelids, which were painted a bronze color that complimented my skin tone. I braided my hair back into a curly ponytail and added gold hair clips to finish the look.

I was happy with my appearance, and glad to know that Kelly had noticed the effort that I put into it.

I smile bashfully. "Actually, I do have a date tonight."

"Aww, with Erenzo?" Kelly gushes.

"Who?" I ask, puzzled.

Kelly's face scrunches up in confusion. "Erenzo. Your boyfrie–"

"Oh!" I interrupt quickly. "I thought you said Lorenzo." I laugh awkwardly. "I was about to say. I don't know any Lorenzo. I only know Erenzo. My boyfriend. The one that I'm going out with. Tonight."

"Um. Okay weirdo," Kelly laughs, "you must be really nervous because you're acting like a complete lunatic."

"Oh you don't know the half of it."

"Must be nice–" Kelly picks through her salad with her fork, "–being in a relationship I mean. I wouldn't know what that is..."

She sighs and I laugh, patting her on the back. "There, there. It gets better."
