"What's you're major?" Ethan asks me over the phone.

It's one o'clock in the morning and everyone has been asleep for a while now.

Ethan called me earlier and came up with the smart idea of talking on the phone so nobody would get suspicious.

I simply told Kelly that I was talking to my dad. He tends to be long winded so she retired to her room at around eleven thirty.

Nobody really cared to know about Ethan, except Jade and ever since the movies, I've known that she can keep a secret.

"I'm majoring in biology, but I'm studying to be a Vet."

Ethan's quiet for a moment before he says. "Gee, I hate to break it to you but you can't study to be a Vet Mani. You have to join the Army, then get out. That's how it works."

I'm speechless for a moment.

Is he serious?

"I'm just kidding." His laughter booms through the speaker and I chuckle softly.

"You got me."

He laughs again, "I know. But seriously, a Veterinarian? You must really like animals."

"Well I grew up in the country, and I spent most of my summers on the farms in Texas, so I'm pretty comfortable with them. I guess it just sort of made sense."

The line is quiet before he speaks in a phony southern accent. "So Texas huh?"

I roll my eyes. "Oh Lord."

"I'm just teasing, but I wouldn't have pictured you as a southern girl. How come you don't have an accent?"

"Not everyone from the south speaks like this." I imitate my own idea of a terrible southern accent. "Plus, I grew up in Houston. I only went to the country to visit my grandparents when they were still alive."

"Hmm." He says thoughtfully.

"I've never been to Texas before."

"Trust me, it's not all that special." I switch the phone to my other ear as I trace circles on my mattress.

"I bet it's not that bad." He comments, and I shake my head—even though he can't see me.

Changing the subject I ask, "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?"

"Anywhere?" He asks.

"Anywhere." I yawn, rubbing the tired from my eyes.

After a moment of contemplation, he says, "I've always wondered what it'd be like to swim in a pink lake."
