Apples dusted with green
Reaching for the sky
Beautiful yet out of place
A leaf in a sea of roses
A soldier on enemy lines
Standing proud and strong
And as I stare with awe
I can't help but compare-
As I often do-
This apple tree to myself
'We're outsiders you and I'
I say touching the bark
'So much potential
Hidden in your roots
Yet you're so overlooked
Why have one green apple
When you can have
A thousand red ones?'
I pick up a lost seed
And place it in my pocket
'For a rainy day'
I say with a smile
I sit against the sapling
And spend a few hours
With another who's
Just as lost as me
And we watch the sun set
Waiting for another day
