Chapter 17

Ethan’s POV

Iya, please, gumising ka na. Lahat kami nag-aalala para sayo.

“Hello?”

May mga taong pumasok. Tumayo ako.

“Hi.”, sabi ng isang girl. She seems familiar. “We’re friends of Iya. How is she?”

Ahh. Yung mga ‘friends’ ni Iya na pinabayaan syang maglasing. I guess nag-aalala din sila sa kanya.

“The doctor said she’s fine now. Pero hindi pa rin sya gumigising.”

“Oh.”

“Please, sit down.”

Lumapit sila isa-isa kay Iya at kinausap sya. Yung mga dala nilang regalo para kay Iya, nilagay nila sa mesa.

Kakaupo ko pa lang nang biglang bumukas yung pinto. Pumasok si Tita at si Sab. Si Tita lumapit agad kay Iya. Tumayo ako para doon sya maupo sa tabi ni Iya.

“Please sit Tita.”, sabi ko.

“Umupo kami ni ate Sab sa tabi ng mga friends ni Iya. Si Tita naupo sa tabi ni Iya.

Kinausap ni ate Sab yung mga friends ni Iya. Ako naman, tinawag ni Tita.

“What did the doctors said hijo?”

“They said she’s fine now. Pero di pa sya nagigising. Probably because her brain needs time to reboot daw. A few days daw sabi nila. Sobrang tired and stress daw si Iya kaya nagcollapse. Plus hindi sya kumakain ng tama at nakakapagpahinga ng maayos. She just needs rest. I’m sorry tita.”

“Don’t be. It’s not your fault.”

“It is. Hindi namin sya naalagaan kaya nangyari to sa kanya.”

“No hijo. Don’t blame yourself. I’m sure Iya wouldn’t want that.”

After an hour, umuwi na rin yung mga friends ni Iya. Nagpakilala sila kay Tita and nagsabi din na dadalaw sila ulit.

An hour after that, tsaka pa lang dumating si Maddy at Carl.

“Tita.”, sabi ni Maddy.

“Hija.”, sabi ni Tita.

“I’m so sorry.”, sabi ni Maddy.

“It’s not your fault hija.”, sabi ni tita.

“I’m sorry too. I wasn’t there.”, sabi ni Carl.

“It’s ok. It’s not your fault.”, sabi ni Tita. “Please mga anak. Wag nyong sisihin ang sarili nyo. It’s not your fault. And Iya wouldn’t want that.”

Lahat kami tahimik lang na nagbabantay kay Iya.

Nilapitan ako ni Carl at kinausap.

“Couz, I’m sorry.”, sabi nya.

“Like tita said, it’s not our fault.”

“No. I’m sorry for not being there when she needed me.”

Why would Iya need you when I was there?

“It’s ok.”

“No it’s not. I promised to help her with what she’s going through, and then bigla akong nawala. She didn’t have anyone to help her.”

“She had me.”

“Don’t you know couz? You’re the one who hurt her. Who do you think she needs protecting from?”
