Chapter Fourteen|| Whisper of lies

{Adrian's POV}

I sighed gripping the bouquet of flowers tightly in my hand. I had to apologize to Katherine. It's the only thing I knew to do. Though, some of this wasn't my fault, I knew I shouldn't have avoided her nor raised my voice at her. She was just worried.

I walked into the front door calling out for her. "Katherine." I called and soon enough she walk out of the living room to where I was with an upset expression and my brows furrowed.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing." She mumbled and I handed the flowers to her.

"Im sorry for the way I acted. It was uncalled for." I mumbled and she let out a small laugh taking the roses.

"Thank you, but you had nothing to apologize for. I'm just stressed." She mumbled and something clouded her expression and I placed my hand on her cheek watching as she leaned into it.

"What's wrong? You seem off. Was it about this morning? Because I-" I was cut off by a screech of a voice.

"You're here! Great! I got Ivy early and I think we should go to the park!" Stacy appeared as she came downstairs and I wanted to groan now knowing why Katherine seemed so upset.

"I'm going to go put these in my room." Katherine said and I watched as Stacy watched her pass with the flowers and her nose scrunched up in distaste.

"Anyways, you ready?" She asked and I shook my head.

"Stacy, I'm sorry but i've had a long day at work. Honestly, I'd like to have dinner with my mate and Ivy tonight if that's okay? We can get dinner tomorrow and go to the park after. I don't have work." I told her and her brows furrowed.

"I don't know if I want her around my niece." She mumbled so lowly I almost didn't catch it.

"What?"

"Can I speak with you...in your office?" She asked softly.

"Uh...yeah sure." I agreed confused.

We walked upstairs and headed in. She shut the door behind her and I folded my arms.

"Well?"

"I don't think I like Katherine being around Ivy." She stated.

"Well, that sucks because she's my mate. She'll be here." I said in a sharper tone.

"You should have heard what she said to me! I had to get Ivy to leave the room, Adrian." She said and I looked at her confused and now more interested.

"What'd she say?"

"That...that I was a home wrecker! That I was... I don't know...trying to take you away from her or something. She called me awful names a-and-" She stopped when her voice cracked. "She said I was 'using Ivy and my brother' to get to you. She acted like I was okay with my brother dying or something!" Anger ripped through me.

"She said what?" How could she?!

"She was just being so r-rude and I was nothing but nice! I-I even offered for her to come to the park with us and she b-basically told me to shove it somewhere! I'm in your life Adrian a-and I can't keep having to go through this when I want to see Ivy." She said and my heart dropped.

"What are you saying?" I asked.

"I-It's Ivy and me or Katherine. I will file for custody for Ivy if I have to and take her away. This is no home she needs to be raised in and especially not b-by that woman!"

"No, Stacy, please don't do this. You cannot make me choose. I'll talk to Katherine! I'll-"

"Im sorry, Adrian, but you have to pick. I'll g-give you some time to think." She said softly before walking back out of the office and I let out a roar punching the wall closest to me.

{Katherine's POV}

I smiled looking at the roses. He got me roses. I had put them in a vase and sat them on my nightstand next to my bed. After taking some time to think about what happened earlier, I realized how hard this is going to be. She isn't going to warm up to me anytime soon and vise versa.

How could we make this work?

I jumped back startled when my bedroom door opened and swung hitting the wall with a crack as Adrian stormed in.

"How could you?!" He yelled and I looked at him with wide eyes.

"What are you talking about?!" I asked stumbling backwards towards my bed.

"Oh don't give me that bullshit! I know what you said to Stacy!" He spoked and I wanted to laugh, of course she'd try to pin us against each other.

"And? You should have heard what she said to me first! I wasn't even half as rude as she was!" I stated and he shook his head.

"I apologize, bring you flowers, and come home to Stacy saying you were calling her awful things, saying she was trying to break us apart, and being rude even when she offered to bring you to the park with us?!" Wait, hold the phone...

"What? No I didn't-"

"Do you know what she just told me?! She's going to try and get custody of Ivy! This is why I didn't want you speaking a word to her! Do you understand what you've done?! Why couldn't you have just kept your mouth shut? Now I could potentially lose one of the best things thats ever happened to me!" He yelled and I flinched tears pooling in my eyes.

"I never said any of-"

"Oh just stop, Katherine! Just stop! Goddess, I can't even look at you right now." He seethed walking out of my room, slamming the door behind him.

A sob escaped me when I realized what the hell just happened.

She played the both of us. She got him to chose her and rid me even when he said he wouldn't.

I shook my head. I can't live like this.

I grabbed a bag and immediately started stuffing clothes in it.

I'm done.
