We were away from Charlotte. About 20 kilometers.
His house was located on a road where only rich people lived.
He started to open the iron gate and we entered the mansion. It was an extensive garden in front of my eyes. A small marble statue. A well. The walls were high, to have privacy. The flowerbeds were very well arranged, very well treated. I figured it wasn’t he the person who did it.
The mansion itself, the outer part, was also really beautiful. It seemed made by stone. The stairs that gave access to the entrance door were made of marble. The columns were marble too. The door was made of a rich wood, with some kind of old draws and inscriptions.
“It's beautiful.” I said.
“And you’re only seeing the outside part.” He came around the car and opened the door for me. “Shouldn’t you call your mother to tell her where you are?”
“No, she knew today was the ball, so she’s on service on the police station.”
He gave me his hand and helped me up the stairs. He opened the door.
All part of the entrance was like in the movies. Huge. With red carpets, and long stairs that we could choose which side we were going to take. Gold statuettes. A huge clock made of gold too.
And what I found most funny was that it had the lighting made by candles. “The candles are always present, or just today, to be romantic?”
He smiled. “They are always there, but usually they’re not used, only if I want to go back in time some centuries.”
We went to another division. It had a huge office full of old books. “They are all collected over time, isn’t it?”
“Of course.” He let me explore every corner of the room and the desk contained all possible and imaginable documents. There wasn’t a speck of dust.
Impressive.
We went to the next room, still on the floor below.
The dining room. Consisted of a huge old wooden table, but very well maintained. The chairs were matching. The floor had huge red carpets. The room had huge windows, all covered up by curtains, you could guess why. The table had candles in golden candlesticks, and the center of the table was also made of gold, a disfigured figure, perhaps a kind of abstract art.
We passed the kitchen. Maybe it was the most modern part of the house.
“If you don’t use the kitchen, why do you need all this?”
“If someone comes here and sees all the house and a non-existent kitchen or too basic for my possessions, they’ll thinking things.
We continue to visit, but this time we started climb up the stairs. I went on one side and he went to other by the other one. I looked like a child.
There were paintings in every hallways.
There were two huge guests’ bedrooms.
A huge and empty room.
We went into another room. It was like a painting workshop. I saw his name signed on a few frames. I continued to see every one of them. Picasso. I saw a picture of him with Picasso.
