Two Steps Behind

Devin's POV: 

May 10,2020

It has been a year since maging kami ni Myrtle. We were getting stronger, may mga times na nag-aaway kami. May times na gusto naming bumitaw na sa isa't-isa, pero hindi namin kaya. Kakabalik ko lang galing sa Sinthesis Tour. May dalawang buwan din kaming hindi nagkita ni Myrtle, she now works for a big architectural firm as a Lead Architect for one of their company's project. Dahil ito sa galing ni Myrtle sa pagdedesenyo ng mga buildings. Nasa airport na ako, dito na lang kami magkikita ni Myrtle, as I planned to surprise her with an Anniversary trip to Milan.

"Hi, Love. I'm walking now papunta sa boarding gate natin." She says so straight away pagkasagot niya sa tawag ko. 

"Okay love, I'll be waiting for you, nakaupo ako sa pinakadulong row sa right mo." I instructed her. 

"Okay, love. see you in a wee bit?" She says to me. 

"Okay, love. I'll see you in a wee bit." I smiled into the phone. 

After the conversation ended, I have browsed through my phone. Nagreply ako sa mga messages ng band mates ko. I thanked them for their understanding. Mawawala kasi ako for 3 Weeks as I planned to explore more of Italy with Myrtle. Naka-plano na ako, dahil mayron kaming 5 Year Multiple-Entry visa from her Ate Madison's wedding 2 years ago, all I needed was to buy us the tickets and get Myrtle to be on leave. Pagtapos kong magreply sa message ng band mates ko, I turned my phone off and slipped it in my pocket. Siya namang dating ni Myrtle. Binitawan niya ang dala niyang duffle bag and hugged me tight, niyakap ko ito ng kasing higpit.

Naluluha na kami ni Myrtle, dahil sa tagal naming hindi nagkita at nagkasama. Half of our time together as a couple we spent it apart, dahil kailangan kong mag tour all over the U.S. and She had to stay in New York for her job as a lead architect. She changed so much, medyo pumayat na ito at may visible na eyebags sa kanyang mata, she wears eye glasses now. Which I think suits her well. Nagyakapan muna kami for a moment before I spoke. 

"I missed you so much love. You have no idea." I said to her in a shaky voice. 
"I missed you so much too love." Natatawa naman niyang sabi. 

I pulled away from the hug and looked at her face, she still has the same features, only now it looks more haggard at halata mo ang pagod sa kanyang mapupungay na mata. I held her face and kissed her gently on the lips, the first in two months that we were apart. 

"Love, ang haggard na ng muka ko." She pouts at me and I smiled. 

"But you still look beautiful as the day I have met you." sabay pulot ko ng duffle bag nito at dinala na sa upuan namin. 

"Ikaw, bolero ka pa din hanggang ngayon." natatawa naman niyang sabi sa akin. 

"I'm not. I just missed you." nakangiti ko nang sabi sa kanya.

"San ba tayo pupunta love? Bakit 3 weeks ang leave na sinabi mo? Buti na lang, yung assistant ko sa project namin, maasahan ko na." 

I pulled out the plane ticket for her, and gave it to her. 

"We're going to Italy?" bakas sa boses niya ang excitement.

"Yes, love. We are. I specifically recall na gusto mo pang bumalik two years ago. Happy Anniversary my love." 

Agad niya akong niyakap ng mahigpit ulit, halatang nasurpresa ito at hindi niya malaman kung paano siya magpapasalamat. 

"Love, thank you. I love you, so much. Sobrang nasurprise ako. Ano ba yan love, eto lang ang gift ko sayo eh." she says as she hands me a small box.

"Ano nanaman to love? Dapat tinago mo na lang yung pera mo." I said to her as I opened the box.

Naglalaman ang box ng isang guitar pick na may band logo namin at pangalan ko. Isang personalized watch na may pangalan niya at date ng Anniversary namin. 5.10.19 the watch looked sleek and cool, kulay black and red ang inscriptions nito.

"See, pareho tayo oh. Couple watch." Sabi nito sa akin. Habang ipinapakita ang white and red na watch niya.

Natawa naman ako sa itinuran nito sa akin.

"Ikaw talaga. Ang thoughtful mo talaga eh no?" I lightly kissed her forehead.

"Syempre naman. The guitar pick, please use it, napapansin ko kasi nagkakakalyo ka na sa pagstrum ng guitar mo, I always wondered why you never used one." she said to me.

"Ok po, Mrs. Lennon." I replied to her at masuyo ko itong hinalikan muli sa mga labi niya. After we pulled apart, isinuot ko na ang watch.

Nakangiti ito sa akin. We sat while waiting for our flight's boarding.

"Love, thank you talaga for the anniversary gift. I love them." I smiled at her.

"Nakakahiya nga love eh, kasi yung gift mo sa akin sobrang bongga, samantalang ako, ito lang ang gift ko sayo." nahihiya niyang sabi sa akin.

I smiled and chuckled a bit.

"Love, you know what was the greatest gift I got from you?" tanong ko na sa kanya.

"I don't love. What is it?" tanong naman niya sa akin.

"There's actually two. Una itong promise ring na suot ko ngayon. Pangalawa yung fact na mahal mo ako and you make sure I feel loved and appreciated. Yun lang naman love, wala na akong mahihiling pa, ako na ang pinakaswerteng tao sa mundo." I told her and looked at her with grateful eyes, hindi ko alam kung paano ako magpapasalamat sa kanya.

"Love, thank you din for loving me with so much intensity. Sobrang walang kupas ka pa din sa pagmamahal mo sakin. Dami mong time para sorpresahin ako ha?"

"Only for you love." I answered her.

Sumandal ito sa akin habang naghihintay na kami tawagin ang pagboard sa flight namin. It's early in the morning, pero pakiramdam ko ay sikat na ang araw at napapaso na ako sa sinag nito. Napangiti na lang ako at inakbayan si Myrtle.

A/N:

Short update. Pasensiya na gaizzz. Bitin muna tayo dito. Sa susunod na chapter maganda naman ang mangyayari sa kanila sa Italy. Tapos sa next next chapter, may kaabang-abang na sakitan ang mangyayari sa kanila. Then moving forward, flash forwards muna ako. 😂 Hanggang makarating na tayo sa dulo. Sa present.
