Florina's POV:
It took us hours to even cross half of the designated distance. Those direful hours finally took a toll on us and most of us wanted to rest which resulted in a fight between the two bickering wizards.
Severus claimed that enough hours were wasted and we needed to move forward. David however had another theory, if we kept moving without rest, we will for sure collapse at one point and still rest and waste time. So better for it to be now than later.
After a lot of fights and arguing, by popular demand - which was everyone except Severus who kept humiliating and insulting each one of us - we decided to rest in a small abandoned wooden structure close to the freezing forest.
"Someone used to live here," David said as we poured inside the small structure surveying it "Look, there is furniture, pots and pans and everything."
It was true, surprisingly the abandoned place had a lot of signs of life scattered around every inch of it. From the outside, the structure seemed to be very tiny, but inside it was a normal sized apartment.
"A wizard used to live here," Severus mumbled.
I nodded in agreement. The place consisted of two average sized rooms and a fully functional bathroom and kitchen all charmed to serve a wandering wizard's needs. It was minimalist to the extreme and had no decorations whatsoever. Only a very old carpet that covered the entire place. It almost reminded me of the room of requirements only if it wasn't buried deep in a frozen forest.
But what struck us as odd was that the place was warm. Very warm. So warm that we all took off our thick coats as soon as we stepped in the cabin. As I was about to survey the place, Severus held my hand immediately stopping me in my tracks.
I turned to him, puzzled. Ignoring my questioning gaze, he started circling the place cautiously murmuring a few incantations under his breath. He kept doing that to every inch of the cabin going in and out of its rooms as he did so. Once he was satisfied, he stood in front of us and sighed at our expressions.
"Revealing charms," he answered simply but we weren't satisfied.
He huffed loudly, "To reveal any hostile magic. Or worse. Malicious curses."
We nodded slowly but he shook his head "honestly how did you two survive as long as you did without once being aware of that?"
David rolled his eyes "I know all about the revealing charms," he turned to me and whispered "Just never knew I have to use them every where I go."
David and I snickered which earned us a glare from the potions master. He wore his coat and went outside without a single word but not before mumbling "I will cast protective charms on the cabin. Don't touch anything."
We nodded once after him and turned to each other chuckling. Looking at the cabin, we noticed that it was the size of a typical tiny apartment. In both the rooms, there was a couch, a small coffee table and a fireplace that too was fully functional and was surprisingly lit up.
I whispered "So that's what is keeping the place warm. But, any normal fire would have been extinguished by now. Why has this one not?"
David nodded absentmindedly as he extended both hands getting closer to the fire feeling its warmth. Severus, who slipped inside without us noticing, immediately ran to David and pushed his hands firmly to stop the wizard from going deeper to the raging fire.
David straightened up and exclaimed in anger, "What did you do that for you git!"
"Didn't I tell you not to touch anything?" Severus scolded "Anyone as average as you might perceive this fire as a normal one. Only a skilled wizard would notice that this is the Gubraithian fire. So if you want to be burned alive at its slightest touch, then by all means be my guest."
