Chemical Kid (A Young Justice Fanfiction)

Condition

"Is she awake?"

"I'm not sure. What happened again Rob?"

"She was standing next to me and just collapsed, that's all Sarah."

"Has Alfred come back with the results?"

"No not yet."

Evie's eyes fluttered opened as she looked around the room. It looked as though she was in an hospital room, with wires and tubes all stabbed into her arms and chest. Robin and Sarah were sitting on a gray couch on the right side of the room, under a window. Both were wearing their civvies, Robin wore a blue hoodie, a black jacket over it; and Sarah wore a button up blue shirt and jeans.

Evie realized they were most likely in a civilian hospital so she spoke cautiously. "Sarah? Rob?" Both looked to her bed, "What's going on?"

"Oh Evie!" Robin said as he stood up, "Glad you're up. You collapsed at the battle, now you're her-"

"Did we win?" Evie asked cutting him off.

Sarah laughed, "Yeah we won. Connor threw a punch into the android's mouth, then it's head kinda exploded."

"Sorry I missed that." Evie said laughing.

"Yeah, it was pretty sweet." Robin said. He then took on a more serious tone, "Now you basically collapsed, and we didn't know what to do, so we took you to the batcave."

"Woah. I'm the the Batcave." Evie said under her breath, "Sweet."

"Yeah it's pretty cool. Batman's friend is doing a blood test right now to see if  you have anything seriously wrong with you." Robin said.

"Ok that's fine." Evie said, "I kind of wanted to know more of what happened during the mission."

"Oh right." Sarah said, "So the man was Professor Ivo. Know him?"

"Ivo..." Evie said, wracking her brain, "I think my friend knows of him. He's an robotics major and I think he has one of his books. Why?"

"We need more intel on him." Robin said, "Could you get your friend to lend you the book to see if it has ant information."

"Oh yeah totally." Evie said, turning to Sarah, "Infact he saw you and Grace carrying me out of the building after she tazed me. He opened the front door to his apartment and saw you two. That ring any bells?"

"Oh, oh yeah." Sarah said, rubbing the back of her neck, "Forgot about that."

"Now what exactly could be wrong with me Rob?" Evie asked.

"Well, it could be as simple as you passed out from the pain. Or it could be that you're anemic. Or something worse."

"Such as?" Evie asked.

"Heart condition." Robin said.

"Fantastic." Evie said.

"Hey Evie." Sarah said, using a comforting tone, "It can't be very bad can it? This hasn't happened before right."

"Once, remember." Evie said, "Right before I went on my first mission. But I think that was more of from shock."

"Yeah maybe it was that." Robin said, "It could be a recurring thing though."

"I hope not." Evie said as an older man walked in.

"Miss Lester I presume?" He said.

"Uh yes?" She said, sitting up, "Do you need anything?"

"My name is Alfred Pennyworth, I am a good friend of Batman and Robin. I have the test results that I took. It's not very good news though."

"I can take it." Evie said smiling.

"Well, you have severe radiation poison." He said sadly, "I suppose this happened because of your explosion. But I believe that the level get higher as you use your powers."

"And what happens if it gets too high?" Rob asked.

"I'll, I'll die." Evie said sadly.

"I'm terribly sorry for the news miss Lester. But I've found a way for you to hold that off for as long as possible." Alfred said. He pulled out a plastic bag that had about ten small white tablets in it, "These are anti-radiation pills. They will bring down the radiation level significantly." He handed the bag to her, "Take one a day, and if you ever need more, ask Batman or Robin."

"Thank you." Evie said sadly.

"I'll leave you all alone then." Alfred said as he walked out of the room.

After he closed the door Evie laid back down and stared at the ceiling. She held the bag in her hand tracing the pills with her pointer finger.

I can't believe this.

I mean I knew there would be a side effect, but this bad?

You know she hates pills.

Guess she'll have to learn to take pills.

Have some compassion! She just found out she almost died!

I know, but she didn't.

She also will have to start exercising. You know she hates that too.

She then felt a tap on her shoulder which shook her out of her thoughts fighting, "Hey Evie?" It was Sarah, "Hey I gotta head out. Gotta make dinner for my little sister and Grace. I'll see you later. Hope you feel better."

"Bye." Evie said sadly as Sarah walked out the door.

"Batman wants to keep an eye on you over night, is that ok?"

"I have school tomorrow." Evie protested.

"Oh he knows. He's telling your professors right now." Robin said smirking.

"You mean as Bruce Wayne? Or is he still in his Batsuit?" Evie said giggling.

"I, I don't know what you're talking about." Robin said suprised.

"Oh please. Anyone with a brain can figure out that Batman is Bruce Wayne! Wayne is the only person in all of Gotham that has the money for all of his gadgets and such!" Evie then smirked at Robin, "And I presume you're his adopted son, Dick Grayson?"

"But you said that was the ones behind the Monkeys! How could he be Batman and control the Monkeys at the same time?" He asked.

"I was joking about that! I knew it couldn't have been Batman! Especially since I saw Ivo there." Evie said laughing, "Just admit it Dick." She then whispered, "I know your secret."

Dick stood there in silence for about thirty seconds. He then began to laugh, "I guess Bruce and I should hang up our capes and you can be the new detective."

"I didn't say that," Evie said laughing, she then become serious, "But now I have you on blackmail."

"Shut up!" Robin said laughing, "no you don't."

"Yes I do." Evie said sitting up.

"Ok fine," Dick said throwing his hands up, "You win."

"Yay!" Evie said, "So who else on the team knows?"

"Just you and Wally as far as I know." He responded, "I still can't believe you figured it out."

Evie laughed, "I'm pretty sure alot of people in Gotham know Dick."

"Why do you think that?" He asked.

"Well my reason for how I figured it out." Evie said calmly, "Bruce Wayne is the only person in Gotham, well only person in Gotham that would do the right thing, with his money."

"Yeah that's true." Dick said getting up, "I'll let you rest." He began to walk out of the room, "Hey Evie?"

She looked over at him, "Yeah?"

"The answer to your question is that he's going as Bruce. I don't think the university would like it if Batman showed up." He said, he then closed the door as Evie fell asleep, a smile adorned her pink lips.
