Chapter twenty four

Natsu P.O.V

"Lucy!" I take control of myself and exclaim.
"You..." I barely hear her mutter.
"Your Lucy isn't in the best shape." Liam says mockingly. Luce's eyes were dulled and she seems weary. Her hair is unkempt and she has a black cloak on. There's a strange scent on here. 
"Luce... what's going on?" I ask, slowly making my way towards her.
'That might not be a good idea...' He warns.
'Shut up.' I tell him. All I can think about is getting Luce away from Liam. Luce stares lifelessly at me, continuously muttering 'you...you'.
"Lucy...? I ask her.
"YOU KILLED HER!!" Luce yells and pulls her keys out from nowhere. Her fist flies towards my face as her keys begin to glow. Tears stain her cheeks and shoot from her eyes. I manage to duck before her fist comes into contact with me. "I never thought I'd have to use these...... ZODIAC!!" By magic twelve glowing figures appear behind her, eventually revealing themselves as Lucy's spirits. 
'I thought Lucy only had ten keys...' He states.
'So did I...' I reply.
"I'll be at the meeting point, my dear, do with him what you will." Liam says and strides away, whistling and twirling his wrist.

"Lucy!" I call to her. Lucy slowly moves towards me, the spirits behind her.
"You...killed...her..." She mutters again.
'You're not going to reach her...' He says. 'Give me control.'
'No!' I yell in my mind. 'You'll hurt her...'
'If we don't take her out she'll destroy everything in this state.' He remarks. 'I won't hurt her too much.' I slowly back up while weighing my options. 

Erza P.O.V

"Which way?" Gajeel asks.
"YOU KILLED HER!!" A scream echoes through the halls.
"I'd imagine that's where flame brain is." Gray says.
"But which way?" Juvia asks.
"Let's go this way..." I say and begin making my way forward. I look back in worry when I hear Levy's heavy coughing.
"Cover your mouth shrimp." Gajeel says as he tears a piece of his clothing off and covers her face. She looks thankfully at him and takes it. "We need to get out of hear."
"Right..." I agree and continue leading the way.

Natsu P.O.V

'Fine.' I tell him. I feel myself pushed out from my body. I close my mind to the images. He easily sends the spirits away. I steel myself against the flames he sends to Luce. Her screams of pain. Her tears of agony. All I can do is watch as Lucy's body falls to the floor. I take control once more and rush to Lucy. I take her body in my arms and sigh in relief when I see her chest rise. Her body is badly burnt and most of the cloak has vanished. She opens her eyes just as another tear falls down her cheek.
"Natsu..." She whispers. "She's gone..."
"Who?" I ask.
"Melody..." She whispers. "She's dead. I couldn't protect her... I should've..." A part of me isn't surprised, the state she was in, the bullet position and her stab wound, it would've been a miracle if she did survive.
"You didn't know Luce..." I run my hand through her hair in an attempt to comfort her.
"I should've..." She whimpers. "I should've known she'd go...I should've known."
"Stop blaming yourself." I tell her, sounding sterner than I'd intended. "Why were you attacking me."
"He...He told me...you killed her..." she says. 
"That's a load of bullshit." A voice says.

Lucas P.O.V

I run for the field, smelling his scent far out. I ignore the nettles stinging my paws and the plants beating my skin. I reach the edge of the field and see Liam on the other side.
"Good to see you again, Lucas." He smirks. Being unable to respond with words, I simply arch my back and growl. "What's wrong? Someone lose something?" I charge towards him, only to collide with him in his wolf form. I jump back before he attacks and observe him. He's easily twice as big as I am. His fur is pitch black and he casts no shadow. It's like he's a shadow himself. His ominous red eyes stare straight through me, making me want to run. How did he turn so fast?

He runs towards me, teeth bared. they're a hideous shade of yellow. I run towards him too, but aiming low. I manage to avoid his teeth so I bite his front leg. I let go and continue to run underneath him, roll onto my back, and bite his stomach. Liam lays on the floor, squashing my face and preventing air from getting to me. I thrash around, trying to push him off but to no avail. I lay completely still and Liam gets off. A few seconds later I hear him howl. I hurriedly jump up and pounce at him from behind. I climb along his back and aim for his neck. He rolls over. However, I'm able to get off before he flattens me again. This is going to be a long fight...

Lucy P.O.V

I look round and don't believe my eyes. There, standing before us, with the light shining behind her like some kind of angel, was Mel.
"People seem to believe anything these days." She says. "It leads to so many misunderstandings....so many..."
"But...You...I...You....He..." I stammer for words.
"Yes I'm alive." She says and mutters something incoherent under her breathe. "I am not dead, you believed I was dead, I'm not dead, he's a dirty little liar."
"He showed me your body!" I half yell. "He told me that Natsu had killed you. He said that if I joined him I could bring you back..."
"Well you're a bit stupid then." She says. "You can't bring people back from the dead unless you're some kind of superhuman."
"Like superman!" Natsu interjects.
"Eh...not quite...but good try!" Mel says. Her face is emphasising every word she says but something is hiding in her eyes. They have a thin white stripe down the middle. Like it was branding her for something. I'd later come to realise what it meant...

I look up at Natsu with a raised brow.
"I didn't know what to say..." He says while looking away.
"So is Lucy not going to ask about the horns and scales?" Mel says. "Or is this a regular occurrence that no one knows about? I mean...I know what it is, but Lucy has never told me, or any of the girls for that matter, about something like this, and she likes to talk...In a good way!" I hadn't even noticed the horns and scales...
"I'll tell you later." He says. "Let's just find Liam and end this madness."
"Finally!" Mel exclaims. "Someone with sense!"

Natsu helps me to stand up while Melody rubs ointment that she manifested on my burns.
"You are an idiot you know that?" She grumbles while finishing up. "Who in their right mind picks a fight with Natsu?"
"Where did he go?" Natsu asks.
"How would I know?" She says while looking at him, eyes widened slightly.
"He's at the meeting place." I say.
"Which is where?" Mel asks.
"He never told me..." I reply, feeling stupid for not knowing.
"But didn't he tell you to meet you there?" Natsu asks.
"He said I'd know where it is when the time is right." I reply. 
"Oh!" Melody exclaims as if suddenly remembering something. "Everyone else is here. Natsu if you don't want them to see...this...might I suggest we move?" We hear a loud howl from somewhere in the distance.
"What is it?" I ask.
"Liam." Mel says while twitching her brows. "He's...victorious? Over whom? Or...no, he needs one of us as sacrifice...uh...hmm...I'm curious now."
"If Liam's there then so am I!" Natsu says and begins running.
"He's either incredibly brave...or incredibly stupid..." Mel says while sweatdropping.
"He's probably both." I reply.
"Right..." She replies. "Can you move or would you rather we stay here?"
"I'll stay here and wait for the others, you go." I say.
"Alright." She says. "Take it easy." She starts to move but changes her mind. She looks at me with wide eyes and grabs my hand. "Lucy.....I....I love you. As a friend that is!" 
"I love you too Mel." I reply. She suddenly jumps forwards and hugs me. She quickly moves away, smiles with her closed eyes and runs after Natsu. Little did I know that those words would be our last.

Natsu: *hugging Lucy* I would never hurt you...
Lucy: *patting his head* I know.
Mira: *Taking pictures*
Me: So no one cares about Mel? ok! Everyone say bye!
