A/N: Hello everyone! So I was pretty busy as it turns out. I went away for a week (no phones ugh) also I've just read Twist and Shout and I just. If you haven't read it, I strongly advise against it. Don't do that to yourself. Please. Sorry that it's late, but here's the story. In this, Jess didn't die in season one, and she and Sam have a relationship similar to Dean and Lisa's. (We can assume this is after Lisa.) Only difference is they have a kid so Sam sticks around to be a father for a while, leaving Dean and Cas to do the hunting. (Pre-established Destiel) Now that that's out of the way, the story can begin!

Cas sighed, pausing the movie he was watching to answer Dean's phone call.

"Hello, Dean." What now, Dean?

"Cas." His voice broke, so Cas knew something wasn't right.

"Dean?"

"Cas," he said again. "Cas, you gotta help me. It's Sam."

He sounded desperate, delirious. Sirens wailed in the background.

"Dean, where are you?"

"On the bridge," he answered quietly.

The bridge? Cas decided he meant the bridge leading over the lake and out of town. He closed his eyes for a second before teleporting himself there.

When he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Dean, tears welling in his eyes, threatening to spill.

"Dean, what happened? What's wrong?" Cas asked, his voice low and intense.

Dean seamed his lips into a tight, silent line and nodded at the emergency vehicles parked along the bridge. Cas spun around and surveyed the scene before him, trying to understand.

The rail on the bridge had been broken, and skid marks could be seen leading to the edge. Shards of glass were scattered all over the ground, and a car was pulled over by the edge of the bridge. The driver was out of the car, walking a shaky and definitely not straight line.

"Where's Sam?" He asked, not sure what this had to do with Dean's little brother.

"Gone, Cas. In the water," he answered, closing his eyes.

Castiel understood.

"Dean... I'm so sorry, love. And Jessica?"

Dean shook his head and swallowed thickly, which Cas took to mean she had been in the car with Sam.

"Their daughter, Cas," he muttered, his voice cracking.

"She was as in the car, too?"

Dean shook his head. "She was at home with the babysitter. But now she has no..." he trailed off, not able to continue.

"No family," Cas finished. "Except for you."

Jessica's family was every bit as dead as she was.

Dean nodded. "Sa- they wanted me to take custody. But I can't do that, Cas. I'm not a father." Last time I tried to be I had to wipe the kid's memory, he added in his head.

Cas furrowed his eyebrows. "You can't put her up for adoption. We'll be a family."

Dean met Castiel's eyes for the first time that night.

"We can't just adopt a kid. We're not ready for that."

"We have to be ready for that. You're just going to give Mary up to a stranger?"

Dean threw his hands up and let them drop, all the anger and sadness over his brother's death leaking into his actions and tone. "Fine. But you have to help me with all the legal crap."
