Epilogue

Mark’s POV

It has been getting really boring up here in Alaska, I don’t know why I have to be up here. I want to go home to my dad and my pack. My mom stays with me all the time, but I need my dad here, it hasn’t been the same without him. It’s really cold up here too, even for a werewolf. I don’t know how much more I can stand this.

I ask my mom everyday why I have to be up here, yet she never answers me. I am normal I’m not some kind of hybrid or anything I am pure werewolf. I don’t have special powers I am a normal nineteen year old werewolf. The only thing that is off about me is my birthmark, it is a half moon. These last few months have been hard on everyone. We have heard rumors about a war, but when I ask no one will tell me what is going on.

It is hard being the youngest one here everyone treats me like a kid when I am nineteen years old. They act like I am going to do something crazy or explode. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if I did either. I don’t remember what the real world is like. I have been in Alaska since I was five years old. If I ever went back to my pack I don’t think I would know how to act around them. Everything here is so different from what I remember from Texas.

Tonight I was determined to go out for a run. I wish I could run in my wolf form, but I haven’t shifted yet though. It sucks being the only one here that can’t shift or have the normal abilities of werewolf. My mom says it’s normal, that everyone shifts at different ages that they only shift when they are ready to handle being a wolf. I know that she was lying though I have been ready for years and when I ask all the other guards they say they shifted when they were thirteen.

I reach the door and walk outside, it feels good just to have fresh air. They barely let me out anymore and I have no idea why, like anyone would attack me with guards around all the time. I reach tree line when I hear a growl in front and behind me. I run to the side and into the forest on my left. I run as fast as I can, but I know they will catch me soon. It was worth a try and I get a good run out of it.

I am tackled to the ground by one of the guards that happens to be my only friend. He shifts into his human form and pulls on some shorts. He helps me up and we walk back to the house without a word. When we get back to the house he starts talking.

“You know you would never be able to get away from here. Even if you did you would have a long way to run until you got to Texas. Plus you wouldn’t have any food or money.” My friend, Lance said.

“I wasn’t trying to escape, Lance, and you know that. All I want to do is get fresh air and run for a little bit. I don’t want to sit around all day and be bored. It is horrible being a prisoner in your own house.” I say to him.

At that moment my mother comes out practically hysterical. She runs up to me and hugs me and then Lance. I roll my eyes at both of them, they are both crazy and over the top when it comes to my protection, of course for different reasons. They both glare at me when they see me rolling my eyes and I know that the lecture is coming from both of them, so I start to zone out so I don’t have to listen to it.

When I notice that they aren’t talking I look at them confused. They are staring at me like I am a wolf and they are my prey, pun intended. I wave my hand in front of their faces. Mom stays the same, but Lance pushes me behind him. Now I can see that there are a bunch of rogues staring at us waiting for something.
