Chapter 12
Jade's POV
"Are you coming?" Will asked. I didn't bother to reply. I just kept staring straight ahead. Will put his leather jacket on my shoulders and left. I heard him speed off on his motorcycle. He didn't even try! How was I supposed to believe he cared when he could never open up to me? It's just like Will to leave me hanging! Whenever anything gets serious, Will leaves. And I was so stupid! I had the entire plan laid out and then he used our excuse to get me out of class and he was being all cute and damn his hotness! The plan could still work. Cleo was coming and she'd help me. All I had to do was follow the plan and ignore all Will's sexiness. His chocolate brown eyes, his delicious pink lips, his ab- I really need to learn how to focus! I sighed and stared at the open sea. I watched the waves gently caressing the sand. Back, forth, back, forth. Why wasn't everything that easy? I took a deep breath.
Now how the hell was I supposed to get back home? I really didn't think this one through. I pouted and considered feeling sorry for myself before I remembered Jeffrey. I can call Jeffrey, the butler! I dug through my oversized black purse in search of my pink iPhone, which I soon found. I quickly scrolled through the contact list until I reached Jeffrey Balding. So his last name wasn't actually 'Balding,' but hey, he was actually balding, so it fit perfectly.
"Hey Jeffrey," I sweetly said.
"Miss Berkshire? Whatever is the matter? Aren't you supposed to be in class?"
"No, we... took a field trip to the beach and I got left behind, so I'm stuck here. Will you pick me up? Please?"
I heard a short silence on the other side of the line. "Don't worry Miss Berkshire. I shall send the limo immediately."
I got up, dusted the sand off me and decided to make my way to the parking area. I was about to start reflecting on the plan when I noticed Sebastian's black Rolls Royce. I walked over to the car and peeked into the slightly tinted window.
"Sebastian and Rose?!"
The slightly tinted window rolled down and I saw the guilty faces of Rose and Sebastian who looked like they had been in a heavy make-out sesh seconds before.
"Don't tell anyone, OK?" Sebastian asked anxiously.
"Please," Rose added.
"Fine. I won't tell anyone, but why are you guys keeping this a secret?"
"Firstly, our parents would kill us. Money marries money," Rose said.
"And second, I don't want the other girls to be mean to Rose," Sebastian said kissing Rose on the cheek.
"Aww," she said leaning in to kiss him and simultaneously rolling up the window.
I rolled my eyes and walked to the black limo which had just rolled up. The chauffeur quickly got out and opened the door for me.
"Thank you."
During the ride home, I went over the plan. I would totally ignore Will and hang on Cameron because Cameron needed to get his ego checked and Will would actually buy that. While I was doing that, I needed Cleo to flirt with Will because then he'd use her to make me jealous. I knew she hated him, but she totally owed me for the Owen thing. He'd probably do the usual kiss or make-out which I would completely ignore and Cleo would dodge by pretending she'd rather take it somewhere more private, which he'd never refuse. And that's where I'd ice the cake. I smirked to myself as I thought of how perfect this plan was. All I needed was a party, but that was just a little detail. I'd talk the plan over with Cleo, who said she'd get here by tomorrow, later. I don't know how, but she had her ways.
I was so glad I had a friend like her that I could depend on. Like in preschool when the other kids were chanting "Jade doesn't have a daddy!" Cleo stood up for me. It was on that day that we became best friends. She was there for me and I was there for her.
"Miss Berkshire, we have arrived," the chauffeur informed me, opening the limo door.
"Oh, thank you," I replied stepping out of the limo. I walked up the grand marble stairs that lead to our porch. I fumbled through my bag in search of the key, but to my surprise, the door was opened by my sweet, pink-haired stepmother, Kristen.
"Jadelynn, what are you doing here? You still have a full hour of school left!"
"I'm having major period cramps and I just couldn't be at school anymore," I replied fake wincing.
"Nice try, but curiously I don't believe you. Now go run along somewhere else. We'll discuss this later," Kristen retorted ready to close the door.
"Do you need me to pull out my pad and show you the blood that is flowing out of my body?!" I exclaimed.
"Jadelynn! Don't be so vulgar!"
"What is the fuss?" I heard a posh-sounding voice ask.
"Nothing! Why don't you stay for tea?" Kristen sweetly replied trying to buy herself more time.
"Now, now, open the door," the posh voice commanded.
Kristen reluctantly opened the door to reveal a finely dressed white-haired lady. She had on a fancy powder blue summer hat and a matching elegant skirt suit. She adorned the outfit with pearl earrings, a matching necklace, fan, and white gloves, but the most interesting thing about her were her piercing blue eyes. They were the same blue eyes my father had.
She scrutinized me carefully before saying, "You must be Jadelynn. Stubborn, outspoken and rude, just like Kristen here told me."
I pursed my lips. "And who might you be?"
"I am your grandmother. I'd say it was a pleasure to meet you, but women of my class do not lie."
I scoffed. "They don't know how to mind their own business either, do they?" I said attempting to make my way past her.
She snapped her fan closed and used it to block my path. "No, they don't, but you will soon become used to that."
"I doubt it."
She smiled. "You know, you're just like your mother. She left with you two because she couldn't handle this world. Can you?"
"I can do whatever I put my mind to," and with that, I brushed past her.
Ugh! I couldn't wait for tomorrow. Finally Friday.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what do you think'll happen tomorrow? How do you think Jadelynn is going to ice the cake? (I know the plan is sorta lame, but bear with me, it has to be this way). Is Cleo as good a friend as Jade thinks?
