Chapter 9

I was a little slow cleaning up the collage I’d been painting, so everyone left before me. As I was leaving the art room, Bridget and another minion blocked the door, smirking and arms folded. Ashley walked in and closed the door behind her.

I raised an eyebrow. “What? Are you guys gonna jump me or something?”

“Spare me from you vulgar antics. I just came to inform you that I like Will now, so stay away from him,” she sneered, turned on her heel and opened the door.

“That’s cute. You think ‘cuz he kissed you, you two will just, get together. Sorry to burst your bubble darling. He’s mine.” I couldn’t believe I’d just said that. I’d claimed him. That was a big no-no. Claiming meant feelings, but maybe we could be a normal couple now. I mean, he had come all the way…

“I thought you’d say that. If you don’t start listening to me, you might start having more mishaps,” Ashley smirked before walking out the door, Bridget and her other minion following closely behind and closed the door behind them.

I rolled my eyes and made my way out the door. Correction; tried to make my way out the door. The door was locked!

I turned the knob making sure the door wasn’t just jammed or something, but as I’d guessed, it was locked. I pounded on the door. “Help! I’m locked in. Someone open the door!”

Bridget looked in the long rectangular window of the door. “Will you keep it down in there? No one’s going to hear you!”

Great. Ashley had locked me in this room and gotten Bridget and Minion #1 to lock me in! I’m on the second floor, I don’t have Rose’s number, Vivian, The Untouchables and Will are probably with Ashley, so that leaves me with - no one, I thought to myself.

        Me-5. Ashley-5.

“Hmm,” I said as I looked around the room. I walked to the far end of the room and opened the window. I looked down and weighed out my options.I could stay in here until someone let me out or risk breaking an arm by jumping out the window. Life is all about taking risks, I told myself deciding to make the jump. I sat on the windowsill and threw down my shoes. I put my feet on the little ledge under the windowsill.

I took a deep breath. “Here goes nothing,” I whispered before I jumped. I closed my eyes. “Oof!” I exclaimed as I fell to the ground. “That wasn’t so bad,” I told myself as I rubbed my slightly grazed palms together and went to retrieve my shoes. As soon as I faced the school building, I saw I was directly in front of the administration building, with 3 shocked faces staring back at me.

I smiled back at them and gave them an awkward wave. “I fell. I’m really clumsy,” I yelled to them before quickly grabbing my shoes and turning around to seeing the forever smirking Will. “How long have you been there?” I asked trying to keep my cool through my semi-embarrassment.

“Just long enough to see you “fall” out the window?” he smirked.

“And you didn’t think to, oh, I don’t know, help me?!”

“Nope, this way was much funnier. And I was halfway across the field when you jumped babe,” he replied, cupping my face. He stared deep into my eyes before saying, “Cute undies.”

“Will!” I laughed as I playfully punched him in the arm.

        “Hey! That’s abuse!” he joked.

“Let’s get out of here before I get some more ‘disciplinary action’,” I smiled grabbing his hand.

“So why were you jumping out of the window?”

“My evil stepsister Ashley locked me in,” I glowered.

“Sweet Ashley? I don’t believe you.”

“Fine, you got me. Jumping out of windows is my new hobby,” I replied sarcastically, letting go of his hand. “Why would I lie about this?”

“Well, you tend to blow things out of proportion,” he said earnestly.

I stopped in my tracks and narrowed my eyes. “Is that so? I think you’re just too stupid to ever see what’s in front of you,” I snapped and walked away from him.

        “See, like right now!”

I ignored him and huffily walked on to the cafeteria. I can’t believe I had wanted to date that jerk! This is why we weren’t together and that’s why I didn’t like him, I mentally screamed. I walked to Vivian’s table and stood over her and Ashley. “Hey Ash, you might want to tell your minions they’re guarding an empty room,” I spat at Ashley. She scowled at me before getting up.

        Me-6. Ashley-5.

“What was that about?” Vivian asked boredly.

            “Oh nothing.”

“So that means something big happened didn’t it?” Preston, who was across the table, asked seriously. “Or you’re not really Jade, you’re a secret ninja!”

We all gave Preston a ‘What?’ look.

“Preston’s right. About the first thing, but honestly, I don’t care enough to ask,” Cameron, who was sitting next to me, said.

“Wow Cameron, you are too sweet,” I sarcastically retorted.

        “Why thank you, babe.”

I shot him an evil glare.

“Calm down. I’m only mucking about,” he said. “Now what’s wrong?” he said more softly realizing that it wasn’t a game.

Suddenly I was getting all emotional and crap. I wasn’t meant to get all mushy-gushy and caring and emotional. Ugh! This was all Will’s fault. So I did the one thing that would or should stop all this mushy gushy crap. I kissed Cameron. As I pulled out of the kiss, I saw an expression on Will’s face that I had never seen before: a mix of hurt and anger.
