Chapter 30- Let it all out
I had definitely not intended on seeing Madeleine here. She was one of the last people I wanted to see. I was on the brink of losing it, considering I had lost the only person I had ever allowed myself to care for. I let him in just for him to shut me out and now Madeleine can witness my breakdown. Great, I thought to myself.
Madeleine's endearing smile fell as soon as she laid her eyes me. She held her head high as she haughtily strolled over to where I was sitting, making her dark brown hair, which was tied into a high ponytail, bounce behind her. "What will it take?" she calmly asked as she wiped the smooth black bar counter with a rag.
I frowned. "What are you talking about?" I do not have time for your games! All I want to do is forget, because if I don't... I refused to think about that.
"Don't play dumb with me!" she hissed. She stopped wiping the counter and looked up to glare at me. "We both know you're here to expose me. You know my family's ... broke." She wrinkled her nose as she uttered the last word with a loathing disgust.
I narrowed my eyes at her and leaned in to her. "I don't give two f*cks, that your family's broke. Despite what you think, I'm not out to get you."
She narrowed her eyes at me accusingly as she pursed her lips. "Why should I trust you?" She defensively crossed her arms over her chest.
I shrugged my shoulders. "You don't have a choice," I said hopping off the barstool and turning around, ready to disappear into the sea of people behind me. My words were as empty as I felt. They had no meaning or purpose. They were just words, the same way Wi- he said words; with no meaning or purpose.
"Jade," Madeleine called out, making me turn back. "Why did you come here?"
I hesitated before responding. "To escape."
I danced my way to what I figured was the center of the club. Lights of various colors flashed on and off around me as I swayed to the beat of the music. People jumped when techno beats came on, turning the dance floor into one jumping entity. Music blaring, bodies on bodies, hands in the air, heat radiating off damp skin and lights flashing erratically. I let my mind go numb. I let it respond to music and only music. I don't know how many songs played or how many guys I danced with, all I know is that I forgot, even if it was just for a little while.
The bartender put a martini before me as soon as I took a seat on the barstool. I was relieved that Madeleine was nowhere in sight.
"I didn't order this," I yelled over the music, which had only gotten louder.
"I know," he smirked, giving me a wink. He was kind of cute for a bartender. He had chocolate skin, eyes you could get lost in and a deliciously muscular build.
I bit my lip and said, "Thanks," letting my eyes linger on his.
"If I didn't know better, I'd say you were following me," a certain golden blonde teased.
I smirked, "You wish," but I refused to pull my eyes away from the bartender's.
"What if I do?" Cameron asked, as the bartender backed away to serve another customer.
I laughed and turned to face him. I was both relieved and disappointed to see the joking smirk on his lips. "But you don't." I downed the martini in one big gulp. "Now if you'll excuse me," I said, brushing past him.
He grabbed onto my wrist, sending electric waves through my body, making me feel alive once again.
I looked up into his blue eyes, one of which had a bruise all around it as if he'd been punched, feeling vulnerable as his eyes sucked me in.
"Let's get out of here," he said, a small lopsided grin creeping onto his face.
I nodded and let him lead me out of the club.
We drove in silence and remained silent until we got to a small burger joint. We sat down at a table in the near empty restaurant.
"So..." he started, signalling he wanted me to say something.
I looked down and played with my fingers.
He gently took my hand, making me look up at him. "You can tell me," he whispered. I could feel his sincerity.
I pulled my hand back and looked out the window as I spoke. "Will's gone."
Silence filled the air, only broken by the shuffling feet of the employees behind the counter.
"He loves you, you know," he said solemnly.
I let out a bitter laugh. "Of course. When you love someone you leave them without saying goodbye. Just a note and a shitty reason why."
Cameron grinned. "That rhymed.... But uhm, that's not the point," he said, hiding his grin. "He needs to figure some stuff out."
I looked up and glared at him, "How would you know?" Cameron looked down at his hand and my jaw dropped. "Are you f*cking me? He talked to you!" I yelled. "Wow," I exclaimed getting up.
"Jade, calm down, it's-" Cameron started as he got up and tried to calm me down.
"He doesn't even like you! Seriously?!"
"But I like you!" he blurted.
We fell silent, eyes locked on each other. I crashed my lips into his. Tongues wandered and hands explored as our bodies got closer and closer together, until we needed to stop for air.
I was panting for air and then suddenly, I was overcome with feelings. I buried my face in his chest and he wrapped his arms around me and rocked me back and forth as I started to bawl my eyes out.
"I-I," was all I managed to get out before my words became incomprehensible.
"Shh, it's OK," Cameron soothed me. "We all need to cry sometimes. Let it all out."
