"Denniiiiise Micheeeeelle!"
Napabalikwas si Den ng gising ng marinig niya ang mahabang sigaw ng nanay niya.
Uh oh. I'm in trouble. Naisip niya agad. Upon hearing her two given names, alam na niya na her mom is definitely not in a good mood.
"Come down this instant!"
Den opened her door and shouted back, "Wait mom! Will just fix myself."
"Now!" sigaw ulit ni Arlene.
Den lazily headed downstairs.
"Will you please explain kung anong ibig sabihin nito?!" said her mom, flashing her a sheet of paper.
Napakunot noo naman si Den. "You said everything that I want di po ba?" she said.
"Yes! Sinabi iyon ng Lolo mo. Pero P49,000?! P49,000 in one month?! This is too much!" galit na sabi ni Arlene.
She's holding her credit card bill. It's been weeks since their shopping spree at nagreflect na ang pinamili niya sa bill.
"Tapos you accumulated this much bill in one-time shopping? Grabe naman. And you bought what? Shoes, bags, and clothes e ang dami dami mo na ngang ganyan. This is mindless spending!" Arlene said angrily.
"It was Aly's idea mom. Na magshopping kami."
"Don't blame your irresponsibility to others! You could have said no. Or you could have practiced a little self-control when you were shopping," reprimanded Arlene.
"You could ask Lolo to pay that mom. We have a deal," Den said cooly.
"I know. I know. Pero iyon na nga yung gusto kong pagsisihan mo e. Hindi maganda ang paglustay ng pera na hindi mo pinaghirapan. Sana alam mo kung ilang tao ang naghirap before natin kitain yang pera na yan. Halos sagarin mo yung credit limit ng card mo. Keep up with what you're doing and the company will be buried in debt bago pa man ito makabawi," said Arlene.
Natahimik naman si Den. Medyo naguilty.
"Look. We can allow this lavishness paminsan minsan. Deal namin yan sayo e. Pero anak, sana naman huwag gawing madalas. Hindi pinupulot lang ang pera," paliwanag ni Arlene.
"I get it, mom. I'm sorry po," told Den while hugging her mom.
"Sige na. At saka next time give us a heads-up kung gagastos ka ng ganito para hindi kami nabibigla," pahabol ni Arlene.
"Opo. Will keep that in mind," pangako ni Den.
"Kumusta pala kayo ni Aly? Your Lolo's asking if the two of you are getting along well," asked Den's mom.
"We're okay po. Hindi lang kami nakakalabas lately but we keep in touch," lied Den. The truth is that they haven't talked since their shopping spree. Tapos that night did not actually end na in good terms sila. Until now inis pa din siya kay Aly.
"Alright. Sige na. Mag-ayos ka na so we can have breakfast," utos ni Arlene. Den gave her mom a sorry kiss before going back to her room.
When Den entered her room, naabutan niyang nagriring ang phone niya. She immediately answered it.
"Hello."
"Den, daanan ka na lang namin ni Fille later?" asked Tasha, member of the Ateneo Lady Eagles.
Den suddenly remembered that they are going to conduct tryouts today.
"Oo nga pala. Sige. Pick me up after lunch. 2pm pa naman di ba?" she asked.
