Taking Forever

It's been days since CHK's opening.

Den has just finished taking a shower. Covered in her bathrobe, she looked at her vanity mirror and saw dark circles around her eyes.

She couldn't get enough sleep after the night she last talked to Alyssa.

She let out a small smile after remembering what Alyssa said -- na hindi pa ito nakamove on sa kanya.

Pero sumama naman ang mukha niya ng maalala niya na ilang araw na rin siyang iniiwasan nito.

Den's phone came to life and LA's name flashed in the screen. Lalong sumakit naman ang ulo niya dahil dito.

She let out a muffled scream out of frustration before she answered the call.

"Hello, babe?"

"Yes? Malapit ka na ba?"

"Um, I can't drive you to the office today. May kailangan kasi akong ayusin sa site. Would you be fine to drive to there?" asked LA.

"Oo naman. Sanay naman na ko magdrive alone. Nagulat nga ako yesterday when you offered to drive."

LA let out a sigh. "Den, I'm sorry. It's just that Dad has put a lot of pressure on me eversince the partnership. Alam mo naman yan di ba? I'm doing this for our future."

Future. It sounded so wrong for Den. She has not thought about it again. Not when Alyssa left.

Inisip na lang niya na maybe because it's still too early in their relationship to talk about the future. Her inner self though is reminding her of the future she used to envision.

"Babe? Still there?"

"Yeah. Um, I better go. Matraffic pa naman."

"Okay babe. Huwag masyado magpagod ha. I love you," LA reminded her.

Den answered with a bit of hesitation. "Y-Yeah. Love you too. Bye," and she ended the call.

She headed for the medicine cabinet after to get a paracetamol.

It's a "Corp Day" today. Nakasimangot si Den na pumasok sa office niya dahil mas mahaba ang biyahe papunta sa corporate building at higit sa lahat, mas traffic compared sa drive niya pa-hospital.

Her secretary, Lizette, placed a cup of coffee on her table.

"Having a bad morning, Ma'am?" tanong nito.

"Bad is an understatement," she said and took a sip from the cup.

"Hope that helps po," Liz said with a smile. Den nodded in approval.

Liz headed to the door. She opened it before saying, "Will just be here outside if you need anything, Ma'am Den."

"Thanks, Liz. You're an--" she stopped midsentence when she saw Alyssa from the open door passed by her office.

"...angel," Den continued. God she missed that girl.

Liz let out a giggle. "Ako ba yung angel, Ma'am o yung dumaan?"

Den couldn't answer.

"Nako natahimik. May dumaang anghel," natatawang sabi ni Liz at tuluyan ng lumabas.

Paupo pa lang si Liz ng lumabas ng pinto si Den.  Palingon-lingon ito paglabas.

"Yes, Ma'am?"
