Amy woke up to a beautiful sunny morning. She got out bed and walked towards her closet. Amy chose a white floral dress. She usually didn't wear dresses often, but today, Amy felt like it was the perfect day to wear one.
Amy brushed her hair and got dressed. Then, Amy went to her kitchen and grabbed out a bowl and a box of coco puffs. She poured herself a glass of milk and poured her coco puffs into the bowl and went outside to sit. As soon as Amy sat down, she saw a blue pickup truck. Steve got out and walked up to the porch.
"What are you doing?" Steve asked.
"What does it look like I'm doing, commander, I'm eating breakfast."
"I told you I'd be here by 8:25."
"I know." Amy replied. She ate a spoonful of coco puffs.
"Well then, let's go."
"Can I at least eat my breakfast?" Amy laughed.
Steve sighed and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Alright, alright," Amy smiled. "Let's go."

"This is the place." Amy said. She unbuckled her seatbelt and started for the front door.
"I love you too mom. Yes, I promise I will be safe."
"Amy?" Steve looked at the girl worried. Her hand was still on the door handle.
"I was talking to my mom before I walked into my house." Amy said.
"You don't have to do this." Steve said.
Amy gripped the door handle and turned it.
"I have too." Amy walked into her home.
"Oh geez." Amy stepped over toppled bookshelves and broken glass. "What the hell happened?"
Amy stepped over the toppled bookshelves and broken glass. Her heart rate began to quicken. But Amy made sure to hide her fear. She needed to be strong if she wanted to find out what had happened to her. Amy needed to find the people responsible for her attempted murder.
Footsteps. Floors creaking. Amy quickly made her way into the guest bedroom. Her hands were shaky. Amy was scared.
Amy began to walk towards the guest bedroom. She found the closet door open. Inside was a safe. The doors to the safe were open as well.
Amy was breathing quickly. She grabbed the flash drive in a hurry, but it slipped out of her shaky hands.
"Damn it!" Amy cursed. Footsteps thudded behind her. Someone grabbed Amy by the hair and dragged her into the kitchen. Amy yelped out in surprise and in pain.
Amy's hands shook. She got down onto her knees and searched for the flash drive. She felt underneath the dresser, nightstands, and the slightly tipped lamp. It wasn't there. Last to check was the bed.
Amy felt underneath the bed and felt something cold touch her fingertips. Amy grasped onto the object and stood up. She brushed off the dust that was on her dress and walked towards Steve.
"I think they were after this." Amy held up the flash drive.
"Did you say they?" Steve asked.
"Yes." Amy replied.
"Hey! Leave her, she'll die anyway." A woman came into the room with a ski mask on her face. "We need to go. Now. The cops are on their way."
"It was a woman. I'm sure of it." Amy said. She walked out of the guest bedroom and into the kitchen. Amy stopped dead in her tracks once she saw the blood.
Amy's breath echoed in her ears. Her whole body felt like it was on fire. She tried to move her arms, legs, anything that could help her survive. But nothing worked. Amy couldn't even cry out for help.
"Geez." A man's voice echoed in Amy's ears. She tried to call out for help, but all that came out were gurgles and blood.
Boots thudded throughout the house.
Amy's eyes closed. She felt so tired. Maybe, if she rested for a little bit, she would be better when she woke up.
The sound of footsteps came closer to Amy. She felt something on her neck. Something warm. Like it was skin. But it was so soft.
"Guys!" Someone yelled. "I found the body. And she's still alive." Many footsteps ran into the kitchen. Someone called out for a medic.
Amy's eyes opened slightly. The man in front of her had dark brown hair. A scruff of a beard and sideburns.
"Just stay with me alright. You're gonna be alright. You're safe now."
"Amy, you alright?" Steve touched Amy's shoulder. She flinched and took a deep breath. A few tears ran down her cheeks.
"Yeah," Amy wiped her eyes, "I'm fine. Just-just take me home please." Steve nodded his head and helped Amy over the bookshelves.
Amy got into the passengers seat and listened to the truck engine start. Then, she watched as the house disappeared. It became smaller and smaller as they got further away from it.

"Steve," Chin walked up to Steve as he came out of his office. "We got a lead."
"Amy wait in my office, I'll be there in a few minutes."
Amy nodded her head and walked towards Steve's office. The door closed behind her.
"What do we have?" Steve asked.
"A man named Lattimer hienz." Chin swiped on the table screen and placed a picture of a man on the TV screens in front of them. He looked to be forty years old. The years took a toll on him. "He's an old case that HPD was working on."
"Let me guess." Steve started, "Amy was working on that case."
"Correct." Chin said. "This man is wanted for multiple murders and sex trafficking. He's also wanted for selling illegal drugs."
"Where can we find this man?" Steve asked.
"Well, that's the thing." Chin swiped the table and sent up another picture. It was a picture of Lattimer Hienz. Except, he was dead in this photo. "It appears that he's deceased."
"I don't believe it." Steve said.
"Neither do I." Chin said. "So, how do we find him?"
"We don't," Steve said, "he finds us."
