Song of the chapter: Ghosts by Mayday Parade

I peel my eyes open to a place that is unfamiliar. My hands are held captive by some really thick length of rope while my feet dangle carelessly below. I can't help but let my brain explode with fearful thoughts.

I take a glance at the scenery around me to help calm me down.

A few pairs of shoes are scattered about along with some clothes. Pictures of a family surround me and I finally realise where I am. My old room.

Memories of my childhood rush to me instantly and I find myself shedding a few tears.

Suddenly a ghostly image of my brother appears in front of me.

“It‘s all your fault, Dee.“ What? I try to reach out to him but he vanishes into thin air. Panic receedingly starts to kick in.

“Dustin? Dustin come back!“ I beg. But instead of Dustin returning I am greeted by my mother.

“Mum,“ I let out a sigh of relief. “What's going on?“

“I don't even know you anymore. You aren't the same daughter I raised.“

“Mum!“ I shriek in confusion and saddness. “Please whatever it was, forgive me.“ I sob intensely. She shakes her head at me with a disapproving look upon her face before fading away from my vision.

“Dee.“ A sweet child's voice that is Gracie‘s rings in my ears. My head shoots up and sure enough her body replaces the open spaces where Dustin and my mother stood.

“Gracie, baby. How have you been? I‘ve missed you so much.“ My arms open automatically, expecting her to enter but she doesn't. She stands frozen in stance, staring right through me.

“Gracie, are you okay?“ I reach out but she steps away.

“Don't touch me.“ She snaps, surprising myself.

“Gracie, it‘s me. Diana, your sister.“ I coo but it looks like she isn't convinced.

“Remember, me and you Gracie.“ I hold out my pinky, hoping the loose end would be tied.

“No!“ She shouts. “You can't say that! You promised that you‘d always be there for me and protect me. You said you would always protect us all.“ Dustin and my mother reappear behind Gracie with the same disgusted look that they left me with.

“Of course I‘d protect you. I‘d take a bullet for all of you.“ I quickly explain. “I can't believe you guys don't believe me.“ More tears escape my sockets, creating a waterfall effect down my cheeks.

Cold air bursts into the atmosphere and my family‘s souls are cast away into the sudden wind, revealing satan himself. Mitchell.

My blood boils at the sight of him and my temper flares up inside of me.

“Well, well, well, if it isn't the devil herself.“ His husky tone that I have not heard for so long.

“It‘s not nice to insult yourself, you know.“ I fire.

“Wow, sassy and deceiving. Some of your finer qualities you seem to uphold. Your family must be so proud.“

“Don't talk about my family. They're all I have right now, unlike you.“

He laughs heartily and I wonder why.

“Oh Diana, that one was a knee slapper.“ He breathes heavily. “But you should know that we‘re on the same team now.“ His tone more serious and I can tell he is not kidding around.

“What do you mean Mitchell?“ He doesn't respond, only staring at me.

“Cut to the fucking point already.“ I scream at him.

“Well why don't you see for yourself.“ His smile sly and cunning like a chesire cat. My hands are suddenly freed from the rope and I collapse to the ground with a thud. I walk over to where Mitchell stands, seeing dark figures laying on the ground. As I approach the scene, I start to recognize the bodies before me. My family.

“What did you do?! You murdered my family. You‘re a monster.“ I slap him as hard as I can in all the weak points of a man.

“It wasn't me.“ He gasps.

“Don't lie to me. I know you're lying, waif until I call the police.“ I try to run away but I am frozen in my tracks.

“Sure, call the police. Do whatever you want but how do you think they‘ll respod when they see blood all over your body and a gun in your hand.“ A mirror is shoved in front of me, showing that I am indeed saturated in blood and am holding a gun.

“Okay.“ I turn back to him. “How'd you manage to make these appear out of the blue? Are you a genie or something?“ I laugh to myself.

“I did nothing.“ He simply replies.

“Stop lying to me.“ I scream once more and I feel my voice on the verge of breaking.

“I'm not.“

“Well if it wasn't you, then who was it?“ I am really sick of this and I can't handle myself or this situation.

“Sorry to break it to you sweetie but it was you.“ He pats me on the back before vanishing into thin air.

“No!“ I run over to my family‘s dead corpse, shaking them awake fiercely. I am then relocated behind prison bars and I sit in a tiny dirt cell.

I move over to the wall where a sign is plastered on the wall. It reads:

Name: Diana Charlotte Miller

Age: 15 years old

DOB: 3 September

Charged with: Murder of 3 family members.

Sentencing: Lifetime sentence.

“NO!“ I yell at no one. Everything crumbles beneath me and I am falling into nowhere. Sirens go off around me, causing my brain to go haywire.

I jolt awake suddenly from my sleeping position and I fall to the floor.

“Dee. You okay?“ Calum joins me on the floor, helping me up to my feet.

“Uh yeah.“ My voice is shaky and weak.

“Hey, you're crying. What's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?“ He rubs his thumb over my face ever so softly.

“It was horrible Calum. I'm such a terrible person.“ I sob and his arms wrap around me. We walk outside to make sure we don't wake anyone.

“You're not a terrible person.“ He hides his head in the nape of neck, rubbing my back up and down.

“Yes I am. Calum, I killed them. I killed my family.“

“It was only a dream. It wasn't real.“ His chocolate eyes gaze into mine, realizing he the closest thing to family right now.

“Cal, promise me you won't leave me.“

“I‘ll never leave you.“ And then I do something I would have never thought I would have thought of doing. Kissing Calum.
