The Next Morning

Morning light strikes my heavy eyes awake. I squint, trying my best to open them fully but I fail miserably and groan. Why the hell does the sun have to be so freaking bright?

"It's time to wake up, sleepy head." Calum’s perky voice rings through my ears. I feel him lean over and cling onto me.

"Cal, what are you doing?" My eyes are still half-open so I can't see his face. I'm pretty sure it's better than mine. I mean seriously, why do guys look so amazing in the morning but girls look like the Joker with smudged make up?

"I'm just giving you a hug. Am I not allowed to give my best friend a hug?" He questions me.

"No, of course you are. Don't get to comfortable, although on this plane, I don't think you are able to." I laugh at my horrible remark, bringing me to life.

"Yeah, I got cramp in my back halfway through the night. It was such a killer." He points to his back and pouts at me.

"Aww, poor baby Cal." I squeeze his chubby cheeks and he pushes me away, hiding a smile on his face.

My stomach grumbles angrily. "Uh, I am so hungry."

"Well lucky for you, I handled that." He holds out a plate of 2 pancakes with butter and maple syrup, just waiting for me to gobble up. There is also a bowl of fresh fruit salad and a bottle of water.

"Thank you Cal. You are such a life saver." I give him a awkward hug before I dig into my plateful of heaven.

"Mmm, that was amazing." I slump back in my chair and push my plate away. I can feel my stomach grow as if a baby were in it, well my food baby anyway.

"Glad you liked it." Calum picks my plate and signals the food boys to pick it up.

"So, we have another 6 hours until we land. Got any ideas what we should do to pass time?"

"Wait, what's the time?"

"It's just after 12, why?"

"Oh god, I slept for about 12 hours." I never sleep in. I'm usually up before the sun rises. "When did you wake up?"

"There was some turbulence at about 5 which woke me up. Since then, I've been wide eyed." He exaggerates on the wide eyed part and widens his big brown eyes.

"Right so apart from creepily watching me sleep, what else have you been doing?"

"I've been having a full on marathon of Friends. It's great, although I have to cover my mouth from laughing." He pouts at me.

"Oh column..." was all I could say.

"Shut up! You know how I can't contain myself when it comes to dry humour." It's true. He's the worst. He'll laugh at any poor joke you tell him and he'll think it's the funniest thing ever.

"I know, believe me." I reassure him. We decide to watch some more Friends until we landed in Dublin.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, If you could please fasten your seatbelts. We are landing in approximately 5 minutes." Calum and I did so faster than anyone in the plane with wide grins. We look at each other, sharing a moment of normality before we enter the Irish republic. Calum squeezes my hand lightly, reassuring that we are in this together. I give him a thankful look before I peer outside the window.

We land smoothly onto the flat surfaced ground and come to a stop. I take a sigh of relief and let go of Calum's hand. He doesn't look horribly pale like he did when we took off and I am glad. I don't think I could handle another sick Calum right now.

We get up from our seats and gather our carry-on luggage from the cupboards above us. I bump into Krista on the way out and we start talking like we've known each other our whole lives. I completely forget about Calum who is behind me, probably wondering why I'm talking to her.

“Cal! I forgot to introduce you guys." I signal Krista over to where Calum is standing. Her walk is graceful and smooth. She must be an undercover model or something, I swear.

"Krista, this is my best friend Calum. Calum, this is Krista." They exchange a quick handshake and a small smile.

"Krista dances like me and she is going to Trinity Uni." I explain to Calum. He seems impressed.

"That's awesome! I'd say something cool like that but I'm stuck with this hermit for 4 months." He jokes to Krista. Was that flirting or..

"Whatever Cal. Anyway, Calum is an amazing singer and plays Bass like a pro." I tell Krista.

"It's nothing really." He blushes just a bit and I'm sure he notices because he excuses himself and leaves us both standing in the tunnel.

"Wow, never seen him like that. Sorry." I apologise. I do a quick scan to see where Calum is but he is nowhere to be found.

"It's okay. I'm sorry to leave you but I have to go meet my roommate who is picking me up outside. It was really nice to meet you, Dee. And if you ever stop by in Dublin again, pop in and say hi. You are welcome anytime." I hug her goodbye and wish her well on her new adventure. I am left alone in the airport tunnel carrying both Calum and I's bags. Calum is still nowhere to be found. I pick my things up and make my way to the other side where I find Calum leaning against the wall.

I run to him as soon as I see him, panting heavily. "There you are! Why did you run away like that?" I drop the bags almost instantly to the ground. They were heavy. Why did that boy have in his bag? A pile of bricks?

"Sorry, I wasn't feeling to good again so I ran before I made a fool of myself." He tells me.

"Was it because you were flirting with Krista?" I make smooching sounds just to annoy him and it does.

"No! Honestly, I wasn't feeling too well when we landed and I just so happened to feel worse when we were with Kelly." He defends.

"It's Krista and okay, whatever you say big guy." I pick the bags and make our way to the luggage stand where we wait for our luggage. I spot my red and white spotty suitcase immediately and retrieve it. Calum's however still wasn't there so we ended up waiting for 15 minutes until we found his plain black suitcase with a large white nike tick on the front.

"Right, so now where do we go?" Calum asks.

"Well" I pull out the exchange papers. "We will meet out host parents by Nandos?" Nandos? Does this airport have a Nandos? Of course it would. Any other airport would be an upgrade from Auckland.

"Nandos? Cool, I like them already! Plus I'm hungry." He rubs his stomach and it grumbles loudly.

"Hey! You wait. We're gonna eat soon so shut up." He talks to his stomach and it replies with another grumble. What kind of person talks to their stomach? Calum Hood.

Ignoring his moment with his stomach, I make my way to the food court, hoping it wouldn't be too far. And sure enough, it was right in front of us. And right in front of us was a short, blonde woman holding a sign saying: "Diana Miller and Calum Hood. We are your host family, not stalkers who know your name." The last part is written messily in a black vivid. It was most probably written by a boy.

I pull Calum who is still having problems with his stomach. I shake my head and drag him to where this lady is standing.

"Hi, I'm Diana and this is Calum." I introduce ourselves with a handshake but she pulls us both in for a hug.
"Hello, you two. My name is Maura Horan and this is my husband, Bobby." A tall man with brown hair and blue eyes gives us a smile and another hug. Irish people are friendly.

"And this is one of my sons, Niall." He has blonde hair like his mother and blue eyes like his father. He is sitting down, munching on some food from Nandos. He gives us a quick wave before digging into his plate. My stomach grumbles loudly. My eyes go wide and I see Calum laughing.

"You two must be hungry. Order anything you want, on us." Maura tells us. We thank her before we depart from them, leaving Maura and Bobby our suitcases.

"What should we get?' I look around to see Subway, McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and of course, Nandos.

"You should get Nandos. They're the best." Niall jogs up behind us with the last of his chicken burrito he was eating. Man, that boy can eat fast.

"Are you recommending?" I ask.

"Nope, I'm ordering." He walks over to Nandos, where the cue isn't as huge as McDonald’s or KFC. Calum and I dart after him immediately and end up at the front of the line. Niall orders 3 chicken burritos to go and pays. The order is ready within in 3 minutes. We walk back over to the table Niall was sitting at and dig into our food. We make small talk with Niall about school and hobbies. He plays guitar and can sing too. He and Calum get along almost instantly, talking about bands they like and laugh heartily like old buddies.

Once we finish, we empty our rubbish in the bin and leave the airport terminal to head back to our home away from home.

A/N hey ya'll! I know Bobby and Maura are divorced but it works better if they are together. I like happy families <3 Remember to pre-order Don't Stop 5SOS fam! I would but I am broke. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. Things about Diana will be revealed in the next few chapters so stay tuned!
