Chapter 30:

"Charlotte." Josh whispered into my ear as I sat in his lap on the couch messing around on my phone, answering texts from Connor, I had been here for a little over a week and Connor had never gone a day without checking up on me.

"Yes?" I whispered back looking up at him.

"Look." He held his phone in front of my face and on the screen was an invitation emailed to him for a masquerade ball.

"Are you going?" I asked him brushing it off assuming that it was a celebrity function and that I would be left here with the dog, Driver, for the night.

"Yes and so are you." He told me softly trailing his hand back and forth up and down my arm.

"There are going to be a lot of people there, it's too much of a risk." I stood and headed for the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge.

"Everyone is wearing masks Charlotte this is our opportunity to go out and get to be a couple without being caught." He followed me.

"Josh, last time people thought we were a couple I was sent states away and our relationship ended. You understand why I don't want anyone to recognize us?" I looked up at him through my lashes, I did really want to go but if we got caught there would be a lot of questions, and I didn't want that and I knew Josh didn't either he was just desperate to get out me out of the house.

"I promise, no one will recognize us." He took my hands reassuring me and kissed my forehead, "please say you'll come with me?" He then got down on one knee still holding my hand.

"Fine, I'll go." I gave in pulling him to his feet, I placed my water on the table behind me and wrapped my arms around his neck, my lips brushed against his before I teasingly pulled away. "But you do realize I have to go shopping." I smirked at him reached my hand into his pocket.

"My wallet is in my jacket sweetheart." Josh laughed, grabbing his black leather jacket off of the counter. "The ball is on four days, do you want to go shopping now?"

"Sure." I grinned much happier than I was letting on, this was my one chance I was going to have to wear a princess dress and I was beyond excited. "But as of walking out that door we have to act like our relationship is two hundred percent platonic." I reminded him shoving my phone in my pocket and leading him out the door.

"I know that Charlotte." He chuckled slapping me on the ass as we walked out the door, I spun around shocked.

"No." I put my hand on his chest making him back up, he chuckled again.

"Are we even capable of acting like we're not a couple?" He inquired smirking up at me mischievously taking my hand off his chest and holding it.

"Of course we are, now let go." I took my hand away.

Josh took me to a shopping strip on his motorcycle in downtown Los Angeles. Palm trees lined the streets and I was surrounded by numerous boutiques and massive shops. Everything about this little area was beautiful.

"You okay?" Josh took my helmet from me as I stared around stunned.

"It's a little overwhelming." I looked back to him giggling a little to see a smile edge across his lips. "okay let's go shopping, where do we go?" I prayed he knew about these stores and didn't ask me to lead the way.

"Follow me." We walked onto the sidewalk and I walked slightly behind him observing him quietly. His walk had changed as we stepped on the sidewalk, he appeared determined and busy and his face was expressionless as if trying to hint to the other people to not bother him. He was wearing the sunglasses he had when we first met, I grinned at the ground recognizing them. "Why are you walking behind me?" He turned snapping me out of my thoughts.
