"Tell me, exactly how long had this been going on?" Michelle placed her head in her hands in deep thought as she sat opposite Josh and I a few months after I had returned to California.

"A few months after we met we became involved romatically." Josh answered a question honestly for once in our relationship.

"Then you ended it when Charlotte came to Kentuckey?" She clarified the details of our story with us her face a bright shade of pink in what was either blush or anger.

"Yes, we weren't together for five months." I jumped in not allowing Josh to do all of this alone.

"Then Charlotte went to visit you." Michelle breathed out taken aback not taking her head out of her hands, "I am an awful parent." She mumbled looking up and staring at both of us in the eyes with horror stricken features.

"It has nothing to do with you." Josh snapped reaching out and taking my hand in his.

"Josh honey, somewhere along the line I must have failed you if I made you think it was okay to be romantically invloved with a fourteen year old girl at the age of twenty." She spoke softly a hint of pent up rage evident in her shaking voice.

"Age doesn't matter, I loved her then and I love her now nothing has changed because of her age." He defended our situation.

"Does statutory rape mean anything to you at all Joshua?" Michelle raised her voice in frustration.

"Does love mean anything to you mom? We are people and because of that we are susceptible to falling in love, there is nothing we can do about it! Regardless of the circumstances we have the right to love each other! And as a human being yourself you don't have the right to tell us who we can and cannot love!" Josh stood anger in his eyes, "you didn't fail me as a parent just because I failed you as a son."

"I don't think you failed Josh, you have to understand I'm only concerned for where you would stand in a court of law when it comes down to this situation, it's scandalous."

"We didn't do anything illegal, we waited until I was 18." I blurted out joining the defense and despite the dire situation I couldn 't help but notcie the small smirk poking at Josh's lips for a split second before forcing his face to become serious once again.

"You guys are sleeping together now?" Michelle's head shot up at looked between us frightfully.

"We are both adults." Josh stood up to her standing up straight still gripping my hand tightly.

"Charlotte," she directed her attention towards me, "over the past four years I have taken you into our family I see you as my daughter, when I look at you I feel as I do looking at any of my other children," she sighed directing her eyes away from me, "Josh is my son and you are what I have come to think of as my daughter so this is just too insestious for me."

"Mom-" Josh started but was cut off.

"If you are truly in love though, which I can see you clearly are despite how much I wish it weren't true, I will learn to accept this, but forgive me if it takes a while to accept two of my children heading down a potentially messy road." She stood and glanced towards us with sadness in her eyes, "I just wish you trusted me enough to tell me before now." She began to walk towards the door, she shut it with a slam and could be heard running down the steps outside.

"I'm not sure if that went well or not." I clicked my tongue starring at the closed door.

"Considering how it could have gone I think it went exceptionally." Josh trailed his arm around my waist and pulled me up against him, "I think you probably could have left out the details of our sex life but there's no going back now is there?"
