The heat was so devastating. The blazing beams of yellow sunlight were beating down on the entire country, causing the extension of the heat wave. The tall tree were standing mute in the summer air. The humidity was encasing the entire landscape of the country, sucking the energy out of the peoples' bodies. The sixth month of the year was moving towards high summer. The earth was rock hard. The cracks of the earth were like the wrinkles on a wizened old face. The earth was baking under the heat of the sunlight, becoming as hard as concrete.
There were lazy and hazy days during the long weeks of summertime. And since there was no school, the different family were having vacations in the certain parts of the country. Some of the families were staying down at the beach, relaxing in the cold water of the ocean. Other families were visiting the mountains for a short weekend, enjoying the nature hikes in the different parts of the forest. And some families had decided to stay in the suburbs of the city, basking in the cold breeze of the air conditioning units. The entire country was warm and drained, withering under the intense heat of the burning sunbeams.
The young woman was looking towards the large window on the right side of the hospital room, gazing at the lines of the tall buildings in the city. She blinked a few times, directing her gaze towards the large air conditioning unit near the ceiling of the room. Due to the heat, she was able to see the cold hazy puffs of grey clouds coming out of the slits in the air conditioning unit. The cold mist was spreading throughout the entire private hospital room, providing a sense of comfort to the young patient. She turned her head and looked towards the left side of the hospital room, gazing at the little nurse in the center of the room.
Out of instinct, the nice nurse turned her head and looked at the slightly confused patient with a warm smile on her face. She was currently folding a large warm blanket in her hands, stepping forward to drape the blanket over the end of the hospital bed. She rounded the other side of the hospital bed, lowering herself into one of the lounge chairs. She reached over and grabbed a little cup of pudding off the tray of food on the bedside table, taking a small metal spoon in her hands. She peeled the little top off the plastic pudding cup, dipping the metal spoon into the soft and gooey substance.
However, the young patient turned her head to stare down at her unresponsive legs underneath the hospital blankets. She lowered her gaze to look down at her left arm (which was in a large white sling). She whipped her head towards the other ling, staring at the long white bandages covering her right arm. She lifted her head and leaned back against the soft white pillows, breathing in a steady motion through the oxygen tubes in her little nostrils. She glanced towards the nurse out of the corner of her eye, lifting one of her fingers to point towards her immobile legs.
"Why can't I feel my legs?" The young patient questioned, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. She tapped her finger against the white bandages on her legs, tilting her head to the side. She blinked a few times, directing her attention towards the nurse at her bedside. The nurse leaned forward in her place and lifted the metal spoon towards the young patient's mouth, wiggling the spoon into the part in her lips. The patient wrapped her mouth around the metal spoon, eating the chocolate pudding in a willing manner.
